The Marketing and Communications Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Director, UBC Botanical Garden to oversee the implementation of the strategic and work plans for marketing and communications. This is multi-faceted marketing and communications work in support of the Garden\xe2\x80\x99s marketing and communication strategies, including supporting the delivery of internal events and outreach programming.This position may involve working weekends, evenings and acting in an on-call capacity. Please note this position is 1.0 FTE.Organizational Status
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Director, UBC Botanical Garden while receiving guidance and direction from the Associate Director, Administration.
This position may supervise other staff, student workers, and volunteers.Work Performed

  • Provide market analysis to support sales and marketing efforts to promote and grow UBC Botanical Garden\xe2\x80\x99s in person and online presence.
  • Guided by the strategies set by the Garden Senior Leadership Team, design and activate Garden campaigns that align with the goals and priorities set out in the strategic plan, and further develops them for Marketing & Communications activities at UBC Botanical Garden.
  • Continuously identify new opportunities and bring fresh ideas for improvement.
  • Lead the creation of the Garden\xe2\x80\x99s annual report and prepare regular reports on marketing and communications activities.
  • In collaboration with the Garden Senior Leadership Team, organize and deliver in-person/hybrid webinars for various audiences, leveraging different tools and formats for maximum engagement.
  • Create core marketing and communications plans and prepare promotional and other materials.
  • Identify and track KPIs and produce regular reports on their effectiveness. This includes, but is not limited to, tracking and reporting ROI on campaigns, programs, events, sponsorships and marketing efforts.
  • Ensure the Garden\xe2\x80\x99s key branding standards are maintained consistently across all channels, publications and promotional materials.
  • Create content for the Garden\xe2\x80\x99s website, events calendar, and other web page content.
  • Regularly review web content to evaluate effectiveness, quality, accuracy, timeliness, consistency, and relevance.
  • Suggest ways sponsorship opportunities can strategically support existing programs and elevate our brand in the market.
  • Assist with the development of an annual Marketing & Communications budget and resource allocation plan.
  • Work with the Volunteer Liaison to oversee the UBC Botanical Garden Membership program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position is critical to developing and maintaining community relationships. Poor performance in this position could jeopardize the reputation and well-being of UBC Botanical Garden, the Faculty of Science and the University of British Columbia. Poor decisions regarding the implementation of marketing and communication initiatives may put UBC Botanical Garden at risk financially and negatively impact UBC\xe2\x80\x99s reputation.Supervision Received
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Director, UBC Botanical Garden while receiving guidance and direction from the Associate Director, Administration. This position exercises independence and discretion in day-to-day decision-making. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of objectives.Supervision Given
The position may supervise staff, student workers, and volunteers.Preferred Qualifications
Diploma in Marketing. Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline including coursework in marketing, communications, media relations/PR, or arts administration preferred. Minimum of one year experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with a Garden, festival or a performing arts organization would be an asset. Working knowledge of contemporary marketing and communications strategies and practices. Demonstrated experience working with a range of audiences including community groups, volunteer groups, educators, donors, artists, publicists, graphic designers, etc. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, analytical skills as well as effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a complex and demanding environment with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to effectively prioritize, organize and schedule workload, work under pressure, meet budget limitations and deadlines.Strong knowledge of marketing procedures and practices and commitment to keep up with best practices. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Able to exercise tact and discretion.
