The Junction Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a community-driven non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the economic and cultural vitality of the Junction. BIAs are associations of commercial property owners and tenants within a defined area who partner with the City to create thriving, competitive, and safe business areas that attract shoppers, diners, tourists, and new businesses.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Junction BIA is seeking to hire a Marketing Assistant to contribute to the visibility of Junction businesses by developing engaging digital content, providing administrative support, and assisting with community events throughout the summer. Reporting to the Executive Director and supervised by the BIA's Marketing Manager, this role is ideal for a self-motivated individual interested in marketing, communications, and supporting local businesses.
NOTE: This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident between the ages 15 and 30 years at the time of application.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
1. Marketing & Digital Content Creation
Work with the BIA's Marketing Manager to develop digital content series highlighting local businesses, public art initiatives, and summer events.
Capture and edit photos and short-form videos
Create branded graphics using Canva.
Write engaging copy for BIA newsletters, web pages, and social media captions.
2. Member Engagement
Conduct in-person visits to Junction businesses to capture content and collect stories, quotes, and event promotions.
Help identify marketing opportunities for individual businesses.
Gather feedback and content to support storytelling, member profiles, and advocacy.
3. Event & Community Support
Support promotional outreach leading up to BIA events, activations, and installations.
Assist with on-site photography/videography at Taste of the Junction (August 9) and other community events throughout the summer.
4. Administrative & Strategic Support
Support the Marketing Manager with content scheduling, asset organization, and documentation.
Maintain digital archives of photos, videos, and member stories.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experienced in social media content creation, photography, and short-form video editing
Background in marketing, communications, journalism, and digital media.
Proficiency in Canva and Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Sheets).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Able to work independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
Interest in small business, urban culture, and community-based storytelling.
Connection to the Junction community is considered an asset.

Fixed Contract Term:
Monday, June 30, 2025 - Friday, August 29, 2025

This position does not offer paid vacation days, personal or sick days, statutory holiday pay, or overtime.
Biweekly timesheets must be submitted to receive payment.
