Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Marketing Assistant supports the communications strategy for all programs at the Aurora Cultural Centre. The primary responsibilities are the coordination of all marketing collateral (digital and print), liaison with contracted designers, eblast and survey communications, content management of the Centre\xe2\x80\x99s social media channels, and social media and outreach event supports.

The position is a temporary full-time contract role until December 22, 2023. There is the possibility of extension to permanent full-time role based on funding. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. This full-time contract position requires the successful candidate to be available 37.5 hours per week and may be asked to work evenings, weekends, start early, and stay late as required. There is an expectation that the position will be available for all Centre events unless previously arranged by the Communications Manager. Periods of over-time and flexing the workday may be required on occasion.

The successful candidate will possess experience in arts marketing, graphic design knowledge, social media content creation and management, and the coordination of print and digital marketing assets. Experience working with contracted staff including designers, and video creation for socials is an asset. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to copywriting, aware of trends in graphic design, a generous and compassionate team member, and skilled in handling administrative tasks round out the ideal qualities required for this role.

Requirements: Guided by the Aurora Cultural Centre\xe2\x80\x99s current vision and mandate, history, and a need to meet programming in a diversity of genres and to all age groups, the Communications Manager is responsible for the internal and external brand of the Centre and is supported by the Marketing Assistant. The communications strategy supports the three main pillars of the Aurora Cultural Centre: Gallery, Education and Performing Arts programming. In addition, Communications supports all fundraising, internal and external brand communications, crisis and issues management, reporting supports for the Executive Director and Board. The role works with the Audience & Digital Services Supervisor to support information flow to the website.

As with all positions at the Centre, the Marketing Assistant will be required to be flexible and punctual. This position will require management of multiple projects simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines, and work as part of a team. The Marketing Assistant will be liaising with various members of the staff team on a variety of projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • print project and production coordination of marketing collateral assets for all programs, including brochures, reports, event house programs, sponsorship signage and reports, banners, postcards, flyers, posters, mailing pieces, etc.;
  • digital production coordination of marketing assets for socials, website assets;
  • organic social media and content management strategy of the Centre\xe2\x80\x99s social media channels in collaboration with the program managers (primarily IG & FB); report on social media metrics for measurement and benchmarking;
  • eblast creation and dissemination (Constant Contact)
  • creation and dissemination of post-event digital surveys, and data aggregation;
  • copywriting and proofing to ensure accuracy and consistent brand identity;
  • liaison with Box Office and Digital Services Supervisor to provide clear and accurate program copy and messaging;
  • staff recruitment campaign coordination;
  • outreach event supports;
  • photo documentation and storage;
  • invoice coding/documentation of marketing collateral;
  • other duties as required to support communications.
Location: The Aurora Cultural Centre is committed to adhere to public health safety guidelines for our employees and families, and some team members continue to work remotely. For 2023, this position requires the Marketing Assistant to work a hybrid role both from home and in-person for program events as determined. The bi-weekly team meeting schedule requires in-person attendance one afternoon a month.

Centre staff work in a team atmosphere and as such all employees may be expected to step beyond what is regularly thought of as their own duties to assist members of the team as required.

Education & Experience
  • Minimum 2 - 3 years Community College Degree/Diploma in Arts Marketing, Graphic Design, or Project Management required.

Additional Info: Salary:
  • $18.00 - $19.50/hour, based on experience for a 37.5 hour work week.
  • Upon successful completion of a 3-month probation period, the successful candidate will also participate in a full suite of employee benefits.

Context and Summary

The Aurora Cultural Centre operates out of a restored 1886 schoolhouse in a small community north of Toronto. The facility houses four purpose-built professional galleries curated by the Aurora Cultural Centre. Town of Aurora is engaged in a significant cultural infrastructure project called Aurora Town Square ) to complete an addition to the schoolhouse and add cultural amenities. The new facility is set to open in 2024.

We are currently operating offsite due to the cultural infrastructure project. We use temporary office, program, and gallery spaces at Aurora Town Hall, and rent performance spaces for events. It is expected that we will return to our home later this year.
