Mississauga Italfest Marketing Assistant Effective June 26, 2023 ? Mississauga Italfest is Mississauga?s first and premier Italian festival. Named a Top 100 Festival in Ontario from 2016 to
2023, Italfest has brought together tens of thousands of local fans and enthusiastic visitors from across Ontario, other parts of Canada, the USA and even Italy! Italfest was founded in 2012 by a group of passionate Canadian Italians, dedicated to preserving time-honoured traditions and became a Not-For-Profit Incorporated Company in 2015. Italfest annually takes place in August mirroring
Italy's national holiday, Ferragosto and is a free festival where visitors can enjoy an authentic Taste of Italy. Featuring an interactive Heritage and Cultural pavilion with historical displays and demonstrations, Italfest shares cultural highlights through traditional family activities like watermelon, pasta, pizza eating, and cheese rolling contests. Italians from across Ontario flock to enter the exciting Bocce Ball tournament and Italian card games contests A variety of delicious authentic food, face-painting, magic, and puppet shows, stilt-walkers, a soccer challenge and sports-zone inflatables, global delicacies, crafts, and 50+ vendors and artisans round out the fun. This year marks the 11th year for Mississauga Italfest. Position: Marketing Assistant This position consists of 30 hours per week over the course of 8 weeks. Tasks and Responsibilities The marketing assistant will work closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the sponsorship committee through written proposals, creation of PowerPoint decks and presentations as well as assisting researching new prospects
  • Communicating with previous sponsors and researching new prospects
  • Developing marketing materials, creating and implementing a well-rounded marketing campaign that involves social media, print media, web, email blasts and some graphic design
  • Sourcing and creating an advertising list of publications to promote and advertise Italfest and events
  • Attending planning committee meetings, taking meeting minutes, follow up on action items, and assisting members in their various portfolios with some administrative tasks as needed
  • Drafting press releases, festival announcements, and updates for stakeholders
  • Helping to draft press releases, festival announcements and updates, partner and sponsor recognition, media pieces, and other external communications
  • Facilitating communications between volunteers, board members, partners, sponsors, vendors, tech, and logistics, and other related Italfest personnel.
  • Directing inquiries about the festival from members of the public to the appropriate team member
Selection Criteria To qualify for consideration for this position, candidates must:
  • Demonstrate strong communication abilities (spoken and written)
  • Demonstrate client service skills for effective and professional engagement with clients on behalf of the festival
  • Demonstrate teamwork skills needed to interact with other people in both small and large groups, including the ability to share resources, plan, engage in decision making, work through conflict positively and ongoing collaboration
  • Have the ability to develop positive strategic relationships to ensure ongoing collaboration with all stakeholders
  • Demonstrate ability to manage time and priorities effectively in order to meet timelines
  • Attention to detail so as to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Have a high level of comfort using a variety of digital tools to enhance learning
  • Be proficient in using various programs including PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, G-suite, and Canva
