As a Marine Technical Specialist, you will provide strong technical and safety leadership and strategic direction to all parties involved in the Marine movement process. During the course of a year, Irving Oil will utilize chartered vessels to transport approximately 500 refined product and crude cargoes. Your success will be to help provide safe, efficient, and cost-effective marine movement of products.

Your Responsibilities:Manage company's exposure by establishing and executing operational and safety protocols for all parties involved with marine movements
Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure marine transportation needs of the organization are met in a cost-effective manner by acting as a project lead or project support
Support current Marine processes and assist in the strategic planning and streamlining of business processes with a goal to enhance department productivity and improve profitability while maintaining safe operations
Subject matter expert on vessel operations, charter parties, additional clauses, claim handling procedures, and safety culture
Subject matter expert on Maritime rules and regulations and remain informed on new regulations and their impact
Lead and or support interactions with various marine organizations (I.E. Coast Guard, Port Authorities)
Provide support for Irving Oil vessel replacement and Stewardship programs. Lead technical reviews and incident investigations for these programs
Lead vessel vetting and auditing including procedure review and updating
Support bunkering operations and bunker claim processes
Interact with vessel owners on specific requirements of trade within Irving network
Provide advice to Ship Captains on all matters involving the performance and operational issues of voyages as required
Lead dealings with cargo loss management issues
Attend vessel and terminal key meetings and monitor vessel loading operations
Create and execute a vessel auditing program
Your Skills:Work effectively with immediate team and stakeholders to achieve goals and actively collaborate at a level of effectiveness with broader organizational teams

Your Experience:Marine qualifications, including sea-going experience
A minimum of 10 years of industry related experience in Operations of Marine vessels
Experience with leading and auditing vessel safety programs
Solid commercial knowledge and understanding of the shipping industry and shipping regulations including negotiation of contracts
Master Mariners Certificate would be considered an asset
