AutoCAD
and
SketchUp
, understands marine construction methods, and is capable of producing accurate, build-ready drawings and site-specific layouts.
This role will work closely with estimators, project managers, and permitting staff to deliver functional and visually clear design documents tailored to project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed
2D and 3D design drawings
for fixed and floating docks, boat lifts, pile configurations, gangways, breakwaters, and associated marine infrastructure
Interpret
site survey data
, client requirements, and environmental reports to create customized designs
Prepare and revise
construction drawings
, layout plans, and component details for use by project teams and regulatory bodies
Collaborate with permitting team to ensure designs comply with
provincial, federal, and local regulations
(e.g., Section 11, Crown Land Tenure)
Support field crews with
as-built drawings
, design clarifications, and site-specific adjustments
Maintain drawing libraries, templates, and material callouts for consistency and efficiency
Create presentation-ready visuals or 3D models to support client proposals, tenders, and marketing
Required Qualifications
Diploma or certificate in
Engineering Design Technology
,
Drafting
, or a related field
Proficient in
AutoCAD
(2D required, 3D an asset)
Experience using
SketchUp
for conceptual and visual models
Understanding of marine or structural design principles and terminology
Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret field conditions and elevation data
Familiarity with
building materials
used in marine construction (e.g., steel, helical & sheet piles, timber, aluminum & steel framing, flotation)
Ability to manage multiple drawing packages simultaneously and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a
marine construction
, civil, or structural design environment
Knowledge of local
foreshore permitting requirements
in BC (Section 11, Crown Land, Transport Canada) - easily learned
Familiarity with
pile driving layouts
, helical piles, and steel framing components
Comfortable reading and interpreting survey plans, geotechnical reports, and engineered drawings
