JOB OVERVIEW
The Process and Planning Supervisor position reports to the Manager, Manufacturing, Repair and Overhaul and is responsible for the implementation of manufacturing processes including, but not limited to: work flow, process flow, processing specifications, process characterization, process monitoring/control methods, material handling, tool selection, consumables, documentation, leadership, training, support, and equipment service/maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Process and Planning Supervisor is responsible for the following key areas:
Supervision
Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility
Resoles escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments
Supervises and prioritizes work
Ensures accurate time allocations to taskings
Participates in selection process for new employees
Provides coaching and feedback
Performance Management (P3's)
Change Management
Ensures safe work practices and safe work conditions
Documentation
Ensures proper recording of maintenance information
Ensures the controlled state of all maintenance documentation in the department
Investigates and reports on audit findings and production issues
Maintains production schedules and status reports
Coordinates root cause investigations and corrective action implementation
Completes Customer Service Surveys
Completes Employee performance reviews
Customer Service
Provides professional efficient customer service to internal and external customers
Makes recommendations and initiates alternatives to improve customer service
Ensures follow up with customers as completed as required
Receives and actions customer feedback on quality and efficiency of services provided
Financial and Administrative
Reports on Costs-Incurred-to-Date of projects to the Manufacturing and Repair Shops Manager
Generates production reports to Department Manager regarding the shop and performance
Oversees quotes and estimates provided from the Planning and Manufacturing team
Technical Competence
Reviews, evaluates, and implements engineering changes and specification requirements
Provides manufacturability feedback during design reviews and release of new parts
Monitors and recommends new and alternate techniques to meet KFA shops requirements
Researches material and process specifications as required in support of repair shop functions
Assures product and process quality by reviewing and accepting testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes
Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors
Maintains production documentation in support of production build schedules
Ensures that all manufacturing and repair processes are carried out in accordance with ISO9001:2015 processes and CAR's 561 and 571
Evaluates technical drawings and data to determine the most suitable/ correct and cost-efficient method to perform a specific task
REQUIREMENTS
Post-secondary education such as a Bachelor's Degree of Mechanical Engineering, or a related field to work as a manufacturing process engineer
Must have manufacturing engineering experience in a high-tech environment preferable in a precision machining setting. Working knowledge and experience of metal forming, heat treating (steels and aluminum), composites, machining, finishing processes, welding, and mechanical systems is desired.
Minimum three years related supervisory experience in supervising a multi-trade environment will be considered an asset
Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation specifications
Strong working knowledge of Transport Canada regulations
Detailed understanding of related ISO 9000 Quality Management principles
Proficient MS Office Suite programs and relevant technical skills and knowledge may include CAD, analytical PMP software, JIRA, and resource planning (ERP) software like SAP. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management Software (PLM)
Experience with SOLIDWORKS would be preferred
Knowledgeable of Lean Manufacturing Principles Proven leadership and organizational skills
Project management and proven track record of implementing productivity improvements
Experience leading and working in high performance teams
Well-rounded engineering background
Excellent technical communication both written and spoken to collaborate with other design and engineering staff, as well as customers and vendors
