Manufacturing Manager - Cake
What will this role achieve?
The Manufacturing Manager at our Halifax site will take full ownership and accountability for ensuring the manufacturing area operates safely, efficiently, and with a strong focus on quality, meeting all pladis standards as well as customer expectations. A key priority will be contributing to the development and execution of the sites continuous improvement strategy, while also supporting individual and team growth as part of the broader labour plan. This role plays a vital part in shaping and delivering the medium to long-term strategy to future-proof the factory, alongside managing daily cost performance in line with fluctuating plant utilisation.
What will be your key deliverables?

  • Lead and drive safety and quality initiatives across the manufacturing site, including area ownership, behavioural programs, safety culture, audit compliance, and continuous improvement of consumer complaint metrics.
  • Manage and develop high-performing teams, focusing on motivation, mentorship, performance management, and fostering a culture of growth and success.
  • Deliver strong operational and financial performance, ensuring conformance to manufacturing plans, cost base improvements, and effective budget management (Prime, Overhead, Operational).
  • Champion site-wide engagement and strategy programs, including the Halifax Experience and Halifax Manufacturing Strategy, aligning with pladis UKs broader vision.
  • Act as a key strategic partner, collaborating with Site Leadership, Marketing, and NPD to drive innovation, flawless new product launches, and long-term strategic goals.

  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing, supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability and enthusiasm for leading teams and achieving results through people
  • Excellent communication skills with a natural ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Skilled in leading teams through change and navigating dynamic work environments
  • Experienced in managing and developing diverse, high-performing teams
  • Familiar with applying Excellence and Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Capable of managing multiple workstreams effectively, with strong prioritisation skills to consistently meet KPIs and performance targets
Desirable
  • Background in working within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment
  • Proven project management experience across various business functions
  • Hands-on experience managing teams including recruitment, onboarding, and performance development
  • Demonstrated capability in managing and controlling budgets
  • Familiarity with operating in a unionised workplace environment
What will the interview process be?
  • 1st stage interview 45 minutes competency-based interview based on our company values and your experiences.
  • 2nd stage interview 60 minutes a technical interview to understand your skill set/case study or presentation interview.
pladis does also use both Psychometric and Aptitude tests to support our processes so you may be asked to complete these as part of your process. Some processes may differ, but we will keep you updated!
