AWT Ottawa has an opening for a permanent, full-time, Manufacturing Equipment Operator, who will be responsible for operating a converting machine to manufacture high quality label and specialized converted products; please note this posting is for an existing vacancy.

Who you are:



Experienced operating machinery. Mechanically inclined and eager to learn. Skilled in performing shop math including fractions, percentages and precise measurements. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and generally comfortable with technology. Good vision abilities: close and distant vision, accurate color perception and peripheral vision. Detail-oriented and able to multitask. Problem solver with well-developed time management skills. Good communicator (oral and written, including presentation and negotiation skills). Able to work collaboratively with a team and stand for long periods of time in one area. Safety-first attitude. Highly ethical worker. Able to obtain Controlled Goods Certification.

Assets



Experienced operating press equipment. Knowledgeable about Six Sigma techniques, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing is considered an asset. Knowledgeable about paper stocks, inks and related materials/techniques used in the printing industry.

Primary responsibilities



Ensures high standards of workmanship and efficiency running various products on a rotary die converting machine. Performs job order review to ensure job requirements are known and understood. Sets up / adjusts the press for job runs and closely monitors machines for signs of problems while ensuring output is meeting set specifications. Monitors product quality during production runs by checking it against drawings and established quality standards. Takes corrective measures when quality standards are not met and recommends measures to improve productivity, product quality, and safety. Troubleshoots and corrects most press operating problems. Completes accurately all related job paperwork. Ensures outputs meet production schedules, safety and quality standards, as well as customer needs. Performs routine press maintenance, safety checks, upkeep and cleaning. Maintains acceptable productivity standards while minimizing raw material waste. Follows manufacturing and processing procedures, sets machine or equipment controls, and carries out production and inspection processes as documented. Ensures proper use of required personal protective equipment at all times. Maintains a clean working area free from dirt and debris between tasks and at end of day. Communicates with Supervisor, Lead Hand, Quality Assurance, as needed for any issue that arises during production. Assists R&D and Production teams in researching and developing new applications. Other duties as assigned.
