Job Description


Operations/Manufacturing/Electronics Objective & Purpose

  • As a core member of the Manufacturing Engineer Team this role contributes in the research, design, development maintenance and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, procedures, systems, machines, tools and equipment.
  • The purpose of this role is to provide regular and ongoing technical support, guidance and assistance to manufacturing operations with the objective to be continuously improving employee safety, product quality, production efficiency and overall manufacturing cost effectiveness.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities The area of responsibilities for this role are divided into two main categories including: Equipment and Facility, and Product and Process. The common responsibilities of both categories include:
  • Provide technical guidance and front line support to Manufacturing Operations, ensuring the safe and effective operation of all Manufacturing Tooling and Equipment; including operator training, preventative maintenance, calibration, software upgrades and general repair.
  • Providing support of formal design changes, manufacturing deviations and the controlled introduction of new products (NPI) to manufacturing.
  • Act as liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing Operations.
  • Assist Management and Manufacturing Engineering Group with the implementation, training and continuous advancement of Lean Manufacturing principle and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Additional duties as required.
The responsibilities of each category are as follows: ME Equipment/Test Jigs:
  • Design, build, implement and maintain electrical and mechanical production assembly jigs, test fixtures, calibration equipment and data collection systems.
  • Recommend and justify capital equipment procurement, complete with cost analysis supporting positive/timely return on investment (ROI).
  • Provide direct support with the integration of new equipment and technology introduced in the plant related to production and packaging process.
  • Analyzes down time data improve machines performance & drive continues improvement.
ME Process/ Product
  • Assist with the design, development, maintenance and continuously improvement of production systems used for creating methods of assembly, issue tracking, test data collection and calibration certification generation, etc.
  • Develop manufacturing processes to enhance employee safety, product quality, production efficiency and overall cost effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing Operations in directing the development and execution of improved work centre layouts, Manufacturing Instructions, visual work instructions, workmanship standards, test protocols, lean manufacturing initiatives, production quality improvements and production efficiency advancements.
  • Initiate and/or provide manufacturing input to Engineering Change Orders (ECO?s) to improve quality, and manufacturability and/or reduce assembly time and material costs.
  • Responsible for establishing and analyzing production standards and recommending process improvement in order to improve efficiencies, cycle times, reduce costs and scrap.
  • Recommend and justify capital equipment procurement, complete with cost analysis supporting positive/timely return on investment (ROI).
Education, Training & Experience
  • Electronic//Electrical Technologist Diploma or related education
  • Minimum Three (3) years? experience supporting electronics manufacturing operations.
  • Strong building electrical equipment and system troubleshooting and resolution skills
  • Knowledge of safety and building codes and standard
  • Experience with computerized MRP/ERP Systems; SYSPRO preferred.
  • Experience with the operation of an ISO certified production environment.
  • Experience with UL, CSA, RoHS, NIST, REACH and other industry/product certification standards.
Skills and Competency Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and PCB design documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and design documentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical circuitry and componentry combined with the ability to analyze and troubleshoot electrical/PCB issues.
  • Knowledge and experience with manufacturing process controls, in process testing, data collection and lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills.
