Job Description


The Manufacturing Engineer / Technologist reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. This role will be primarily focused on improving manufacturing efficiency by providing information, design improvements, process improvements, tooling, and automation to address bottlenecks on the shop floor.
Main ResponsibilitiesPrioritize being present in the manufacturing environment, to understand and solve issues on released work orders
Provide engineering support to manufacturing team
Make improvements that reduce hours in manufacturingSecondary ResponsibilitiesInitiate design and process changes to enhance quality, lower costs, improve efficiency
Review designs and provide guidance to optimize company products for manufacturability
Create and revise drawings
Analyze data such as labour, weld times, material costs, etc.
Research, evaluate, and implement new equipment, processes, products, etc.
Design and implement new tooling such as fixtures, jigs, lifting / work-holding devices, etc.
Initiate design and process changes to increase utilization of automated equipment
Understand and communicate equipment capabilities and best practices to Production and/or Engineering (process guidelines, operational specs, etc.)
Facilitate problem solving and process improvement work internally
Provide technical assistance maintenance program, developing scope and frequency for equipment inspections, maintenance, and repairs
Publishing work instructions, checklists, process flow diagrams, operations bulletins, etc.
Engineering & Production training materials
Programming automated equipment (robotic welder, CNC equipment, etc.) as neededAttributes and SkillsMechanical aptitude
Computer aided design using 2D and 3D design software
Solid organizational capabilities and ability to complete tasks
Able to work autonomously and uses good decision making practices
Problem solving ability in a customer focused environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Intermediate computer literacy with Excel, ERP, Email & Calendar Management, and Document Production
Able to maintain a professional and calm demeanor in challenging situations
Able to identify procedure and process improvements and advise the appropriate stakeholdersExperience and EducationTechnical diploma or degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering required
Registered or qualified to register with ASET or APEGA
Manufacturing experience would be an asset (mobile equipment and construction equipment preferred)
Solid modeling experience, required
FEA experience, preferred
Experience at communication with various personality types and various levels of urgency or challenge, and able to adjust personal style accordinglyWorking ConditionsThe work performed is carried out indoors in a regulated environment
Frequent exposure to industrial shop hazards which require additional protection from noise, fall hazards and air quality. Safety boots must be worn.
