Managing Editor (Marketing & Communications Department)

Reports To: Senior Director of Communications

Status: Permanent Full-time

Salary range: $60,000 to $72,000

Position Summary:

The Managing Editor is responsible for overseeing the sourcing, editing, and production of several TSO channels, including but not limited to: house program books, TSO.ca editorial content, and other owned-channel content.

The role involves planning, maintaining, and coordinating editorial content and production deadlines for all these channels, including budget management, where appropriate.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Amplify the TSO\xe2\x80\x99s institutional voice across various materials as a prolific writer, meticulous proofreader, and intuitive editor by acquiring, crafting, and/or refining content for TSO house program books and other TSO channels in support of the TSO\xe2\x80\x99s brand narrative.

Orchestrate seamless communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely coordination of program book content sourcing, proofreading, and production.

Coordinate with freelance annotators, graphic designers, editorial writers, and internal and external proofreaders.

Serve as the liaison to artists and their management for publicity material needs.

A raconteur at heart, the Managing Editor weaves narratives that showcase the TSO concert experience. They breathe life into our stories, aligning them with our broader marketing strategy, inspiring both loyal subscribers and new audiences, and driving sales efforts.

Additional scope of responsibility:

Serve as the TSO\xe2\x80\x99s editorial style guide expert and authority across the organization.

Work with the Communications team to develop best-in-class content that aligns with overall Marketing team goals.

Manages the decision-making process related to editorial content and production deadlines.

Takes ownership of decisions related to content sourcing, editing, and production, which impacts the overall quality of the TSO\'s publications and content.

Frequent collaboration with internal stakeholders, external contributors, and suppliers, including design vendors, printers, and venue front of house.

Participate in regular concert duty rotation.

Requirements:

Experience & Qualifications:

5 -10 years of experience in a communications role, specifically related to the editorial and production process of both print and digital publishing.

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in communications, journalism, arts management, musicology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience.

Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with an ability to weave compelling narratives that support communication campaigns.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess a basic understanding of classical music and be capable of developing content related to the subject matter, but is not required to be a musicologist or subject expert.

A passion for the arts, particularly orchestral music is a plus.

Additional Info:

Working Conditions/Physical Demands: This role requires extensive use of computers and may involve extended periods of sitting and concentration.

Hybrid work environment, typically operating Monday through Friday, 9AM - 5PM.

Evening and weekend hours are required for concert duty, approximately two to three times per month.

The TSO requires all employees to provide proof of fully-vaccinated status, with vaccines approved by Health Canada. A person is considered fully-vaccinated if they have completed the required regime for a COVID-19 vaccine and 14 days have passed since their final dose.
