This requires a creative, strategic and highly organized editorial leader with a track record of driving breaking, live and specials programming, and of motivating people.This key role ensures the daily and long-term achievement of CBC News Network\'s journalistic, audience and strategic objectives of CBC News Network. Main responsibilities include the planning, directing and overseeing of NN\xe2\x80\x99s daily journalistic programming, production, operations and business administration. The managing editor leads breaking coverage for CBC News in co-ordination with other leaders, and supports the News leadership team in the development and creation of strategic plans with a particular emphasis on breaking, live, special and streaming areas.Broadcast craft and streaming knowledge, and proficiency in editorial direction and planning including program development, are essential.You must be an effective communicator with demonstrated skills in managing the complexity of live programming across platforms, and leading journalistic teams. A commitment to and deep understanding of equity and inclusion is a critical asset.You must have knowledge of the CBC mandate, application of the Journalistic Standards and Practices, and demonstrate commitment to public service journalism and what that encompasses in a digital streaming age. You\xe2\x80\x99re immersed in industry and technology trends, demonstrate innovation in connecting with audiences, and support in the development of new programming, special projects, and talent development.You care about the people you work with and have a deep understanding and appreciation of diversity of perspective, opinion and experience, as well as a record of building an inclusive and respectful work culture.This full-time position reports to the senior director of digital publishing and streaming, and is based in Toronto.Relevant skills/qualificationsMinimum of 10 years related industry experience, including newsroom leadership.Knowledge of live and breaking news production in order to lead, develop, implement, and evaluate programming.Proven experience planning and co-ordinating special coverage and events, including breaking news, elections, and network specials.Ability to communicate and co-ordinate with other CBC News departments across marketing, communications, scheduling, Presentation, operations and advertising considerations.Extensive experience with CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices.Proven ability to set programming strategy and create the conditions necessary for success.Superior understanding of journalistic craft, story-telling and program generation.Experience guiding and developing on-air talent, craft and performance.Demonstrable leadership and management skills and experience to inspire and direct staff during periods of significant change.Proven ability to make decisions rapidly and frequently to tight deadlines.A knowledge of and understanding of audience measurement targets.Strong creative skills to evaluate stories, develop content ideas, and find solutions to a variety of technical, resource and operational issues.Strong understanding of media trends and their implications for CBC News programming in non-linear platforms.A clear commitment to CBC News content strategy, with creativity and vision.Ability to handle constantly changing and multiple priorities while juggling tasks and/or projects.Strong analytical skills to solve complex journalistic and operational issues.Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to be clear, concise, and precise on journalistic and programming matters.Knowledge of the law as it relates to broadcasting and journalism.Cultural sensitivity, awareness and a demonstrated commitment to the value of diversity in the workplace.Strong understanding of media trends and their implications for CBC News\xe2\x80\x99s future.A demonstrated commitment to finding and developing diverse, non-traditional perspectives and staff.Understanding of budget management and strong business financial literacy.Core job responsibilitiesIn conjunction with the CBC News senior leadership team, ensures CBC News Network\xe2\x80\x99s mission, goals and objectives are formulated, executed and being met in line with CBC journalistic standards.Oversee staffing of CBC News Network to meet the editorial objectives of news programming.Work with the management team and editorial leaders to determine story priorities, develop innovative content strategies, and guide teams through live, breaking and ongoing news stories.Guide teams through complex journalism and editorial standards, in association with senior leadership.Implement strategies that will broaden and grow new audiences.Review content daily to ensure it meets editorial standards and targets.Ensure that a formal evaluation process is in place for journalistic programming and programming values.In concert with the senior director, is responsible for all editorial human resources, including overall management and engagement of staff, career development, hiring, training, communication, performance management and discipline.Work with the senior director and finance personnel to ensure that budgets are properly prepared and adhered to, and costs are tracked and controlled.Maintain collaborative relationships across News, Scheduling, and Business Development.Develop and maintain positive relationships and communicate with senior News management.Collaborate with teams across CBC News on special coverage.In collaboration with the Senior Director, lead strategic staff planning to support the ongoing development of new and existing talent, with a focus on diversity and new skill sets.Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to being a leader in reflecting our country\xe2\x80\x99s diversity.
