Reporting to the EVP and Head, Global Multi-Asset Strategies, the Managing Director, Overlay Management is responsible for the leadership and development of the team and strategies that support investment management decisions at the Plan-level. The Managing Director will lead the implementation of portfolio rebalancing, completion portfolios, tail-risk hedging and dynamic asset allocation strategies. The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience managing exposures and building dynamic strategies across equities, bonds, credit, commodity and FX markets with an emphasis on the application of derivatives in these asset classes. This senior role will also be part of the Global Multi-Asset leadership team, where the incumbent's contribution to the strategic direction of the broader group will be keenly sought.

As a member of the Global Multi-Asset Strategies team, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Leadership of the Overlay team, establishing the vision and strategic direction of the group and areas of future focus, ensuring alignment with firm-wide investment objectives
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization by providing expert advice to key stakeholders (e.g. Total Portfolio Management, Risk, Finance), on the implementation of Overlay strategies
  • Provide total portfolio perspectives, ensuring Overlay strategies are aligned with overall balance sheet objectives
  • Development and implementation of dynamic asset allocation recommendations to actively tilt exposures across asset classes
  • Management of multi-billion-dollar completion and overlay portfolios and the creation of other completion strategies as required
  • Dynamic management of option-based strategies to hedge portfolio risks
  • Implementation of FX hedges as well as recommending and implementing active FX tilts
  • Implementation of portfolio rebalancing while ensuring the ongoing improvement to the existing rebalancing strategy
  • Represent the Global Multi-Asset Team in a senior capacity, presenting to the CIO, Portfolio Management Committee, Executive Leadership Team and Board as required
  • Mentor and develop team members while providing them with an encouraging, enjoyable and supportive working environment
You bring the following skills and qualifications:
  • A proven track record of outstanding leadership and of managing overlay strategies at scale, preferably within a pension, asset manager, or institutional investment setting
  • Accumulated +15 years of relevant experience in the investment industry, preferably with a portfolio management background across multiple asset classes and currencies
  • Undergraduate and/or master's degree in a finance-oriented discipline
  • Strong technical abilities, with deep understanding of derivative securities
  • A track record of synthesizing different investment signals and discretionary views into well articulated investment recommendations for the EVP, Head of Global Multi-Asset Strategies, EVP, Head of Total Portfolio Management and the CIO
  • Proven ability to innovate and evolve investment processes, balancing structure with adaptability
  • Deep understanding of portfolio construction principles, including risk budgeting techniques
  • The ability to develop a strong team culture, focused on setting a high standard while ensuring a supportive and respectful work environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, a strong listener and excellent communicator
  • Demonstrated ability to build successful relationships internally and externally
  • Proven ability to produce clear, logical and convincing arguments and explain complex ideas simply
