Requisition ID: 204199We are committed to investing in our employees and helping you continue your career at Scotiabank.PurposeThe Managing Director, Balance Sheet Management (The MD) coordinates the development and maintenance of the Asset & Liability Management (ALM) framework as well as analysis, calculation and monitoring of Structural Interest Rate and Foreign Exchange Risks.As the subject matter expert, the MD also leads communication and education efforts, relating to structural market risks, up to ALCO and the Board as well as out to business lines. Through this strategic influencing, they play a critical role in making Group Treasury an enabler of the business lines to execute on the strategic plan.Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Provides strategic and analytical support to manage the Bank\'s Structural Interest Rate Risk (SIRR), Structural Foreign Exchange Risk and Corporate & International Banking FX earnings exposures.
  • The MD is the Data Steward for ALM - SIRR.
  • Manages the measurement, analysis and reporting of the Bank\'s structural interest rate risk for limit monitoring and public disclosure.
  • Provides quantitative, analytical, and regulatory analyses and solutions to assist the Bank in effectively managing the Liquidity Portfolio and the Structural Interest Rate Risk of the Bank\'s balance sheet.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank\'s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank\'s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy, managing succession, and development planning for the team.
Education / Experience
  • Business degree required. MBA desired.
  • 10+ years of ALM experience with expert knowledge of banking and capital market products.
  • Proven supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Very strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to translate vision into action and demonstrated high-performance track record.
