Job Description

The Lead Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to clients and prospects by delivering strategic guidance, analysis, and execution across all aspects of group benefits. This role combines consultative leadership with deep technical expertise to ensure that each client's benefits program is competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals. The Lead Consultant partners with large corporate clients to optimize plan performance, identify opportunities for innovation and cost efficiency, and deliver an exceptional client experience through proactive service and insight.



The Lead Consultant will be responsible for providing guidance and support to new business prospects and in-force clients in relation to their group benefits programs. The Lead Consultant will work closely with the Large Client Strategy team to manage and coordinate the day-to-day activities related to employee benefits, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services to clients and prospects.

Work within the Large Client Strategy team to manage in-force groups, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of employee benefits services. Review plan performance and experience reporting, and assist with flexible pricing and renewal exercises. Prepare market specifications for clients using both internal and external quoting systems. Analyze data and multiple carrier proposals, prepare cost comparisons, and make recommendations regarding the most suitable options for clients. Conduct ad hoc investigations of claims data to identify trends and provide insights to clients. Gather required data and perform analysis of estimated cost impacts of plan design changes for self-insured clients. Prepare client renewal reports and reviews, negotiate with insurance carriers, and complete the renewal cycle with supporting commentary. Maintain client reporting frameworks, ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports that demonstrate plan performance and financial outcomes. Track commissions and compensation structures across carriers to ensure accuracy, transparency, and proper allocation in collaboration with internal finance and accounting teams. Prepare ad hoc presentations, reports, and proposals as requested by clients. Provide technical and peer review support for analysts and other associates. Coordinate with insurance carriers, vendors, and internal departments to ensure smooth execution and implementation of benefit programs. Prepare and deliver client presentations, both virtually and in person. Support strong working relationships with Plan Sponsors, Plan Administrators, and other client representatives. Develop and maintain positive relationships with carriers, Account Managers, and other client stakeholders. Stay current with changes in legislation, regulations, and best practices related to employee benefits. Track ongoing work and update workflow systems regularly and as required. Provide mentorship and training to Benefits Specialists and Analysts within the Large Client Strategy team.

To be successful as a Managing Consultant with People Corporation, you will need:

7+ years of progressive experience in Group Benefits consulting with a proven record of advising mid-to-large employers. Demonstrated expertise in flexible benefit plan design, ASO (Administrative Services Only) and fully insured arrangements, pooled/funded plan structures, including financial modeling, cost forecasting, and performance benchmarking. Skilled in leading renewals and marketings end-to-end, from strategic analysis and insurance negotiations to client-ready recommendations and presentation of financial results. Strong ability to interpret complex claims and utilization data, providing actionable insights that drive plan sustainability, employee engagement, and total rewards alignment. Experience in union negotiations, plan audits, and vendor management, ensuring ongoing compliance and optimization across all benefit lines. Life License (LLQP) required. Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation considered an asset.
