The Manager - Underwriting ("Manager") works under the guidance of the Vice President - Underwriting contributing to loan transactions, overall process improvement and Underwriting team management. A successful candidate will have a strong background in risk management and a detailed understanding of the commercial mortgage financing process, from initial underwriting through to closing. The Manager role covers three key areas of focus:

Underwriting: The Manager will oversee analysts and support the Underwriting team in providing thorough analysis of potential transactions. They are responsible for ensuring that credit risks are appropriately addressed, mitigated and clearly communicated to the Investment Committee. The Underwriting Manager will work closely with the Originator on loan structuring, requiring an understanding of internal lending appetite as well as prevailing market forces in the Canadian real estate landscape.

Process: The Manager will take the lead in coordinating the analysis, presentation and ultimate funding of the loan. This includes coordinating with brokers and borrowers to ensure a smooth process, creating clear and concise presentation material, and working with Analysts and the Originator to present the transaction for approval - all with a continued focus on risk management.

Team: The Manager is expected to take an active role in establishing Underwriting team culture through managing and coaching analysts while ensuring the stability and success of the Underwriting team. The Manager will play an integral role in fostering a culture of teamwork, support and collaboration within the Underwriting Team.

Key Responsibilities/Functions:



Ensure that transactions within the ACM pipeline are being addressed by both Analysts and Originators with a focus on risk management and ensuring compliance with the company's established lending parameters;

Review and prepare valuations and credit proposals in-line with internal credit risk guidelines;

Collaborate with Originators on loan structuring;

Stay apprised of market and financing trends within the Canadian real estate market;

Mentor and support junior team members, helping them strengthen their analytical skills and grow into more independent underwriters;

Partner with Legal Administrator and Operations teams in order to facillitate the funding of mortgage investments;

Assist the Investments and Loan Administration teams with performing property inspections;

Attend networking and industry related events to assist senior management with enhancing ACM's presence in the marketplace and developing client relationships;

Other ad hoc projects from senior management as required.

Qualifications:



5+ years experience in a credit underwriting role within the commercial real estate sector

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent

Strong understanding of all key underwriting documentation required in commercial real estate financing transactions

Strong analytical abilities across all commercial real estate asset classes;

Demonstrated ability to consolidate large amounts of information into clear, concise and pertinent written and verbal communications

Highly organized, proactive and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Experience mentoring and developing junior team members, with a focus on building technical skills and underwriting judgment

Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively

Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Experience with Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a bonus

Pay: $115,000.00-$135,000.00 per year
