Job Description



SUMMARY For the City of Dieppe, tourism development represents a growth opportunity that is both beneficial to its economy and compatible with the quality of life of its residents. However, infrastructure development and public and private investments are required to improve tourism offerings, strengthen the city's capacity to host visitors, build a distinctive brand image for the city, and develop the city's reputation as a tourism destination. Working with the various stakeholders in the city, region, province and Atlantic Canada is also essential to create synergies. Reporting to the Director - Community Development, the incumbent is responsible for revitalizing the region by increasing its attractiveness and promoting its assets, implementing the City's tourism development strategy with local partners, and supporting sector stakeholders. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Tourism initiatives

  • Lead the tourism committee, with a view to monitoring the progress of projects, coordinating visitor hosting, networking, and developing tourism experiences;
  • Develop and implement a protocol for hosting sports groups;
  • Develop an event hosting guide that includes a profile of each municipal site and the services available at each;
  • Work to secure the hosting of sporting events in Dieppe and assist host organizations in bidding for and developing such events;
  • Develop and maintain a high-level, dynamic and ongoing relationship with local, national and international sports organizations and companies;
  • Develop an event evaluation/measurement guide;
  • Tour the hosting network and keep its members up to date on programming and services;
  • Develop tourism experiences, with a focus on Acadian culture, shopping, entertainment and sporting events;
  • Leverage the presence of sports tournaments to develop signature experiences for other target clienteles;
  • Analyze the potential of tourism projects in the city and region and make recommendations aimed at optimizing the offer of tourism services;
  • Support stakeholders in deploying new tourism products;
  • Collaborate with all staff to achieve organizational success based on the municipality's values and objectives
  • Create tools to collect statistical data on tourism;
  • Answer visitors' questions (by e-mail, phone or mail) and provide them with information and documentation on local tourism products (services, amenities, available activities, etc.);
  • Support tourism promoters with the development of their projects and direct them to appropriate resources and sources of funding in order to maximize economic spin-offs;
  • Monitor innovative tourism initiatives and funding programs that can support local tourism development;
  • Lead and implement initiatives geared to improving the market readiness of the region's tourism industry, products, experiences, destinations and attractions;
  • Collaborate with organizers, community partners and promoters to connect events to the community, enhance the city's quality of life and build Dieppe's reputation in external markets;
  • Maintain the municipal events policy, focusing on municipal services and funding opportunities;
  • Perform any other tasks, technical and otherwise, required to assist in the completion of projects or for the smooth running of operations.
Human resources, health and safety
  • Participate in staff recruitment, working alongside the Human Resources department;
  • Supervise staff under his/her responsibility, approve time sheets and conduct performance appraisals;
  • Ensure compliance with the collective agreement, policies and procedures in effect;
  • Communicate and ensure employee compliance with occupational health and safety regulations;
  • Facilitate the creation of a safe work environment by enforcing occupational health and safety prevention measures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education
  • University education in tourism, leisure, marketing or business administration, or equivalent experience.
Driver's license
  • Class 5 driver's licence or the ability to obtain one.
Experience
  • Three (3) years of experience in development and collaboration in partnership with various groups/organizations at the municipal level, and the event and tourism sectors.
Knowledge
  • Fluency in spoken and written French and English;
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
  • In-depth knowledge of the tourism industry, as well as the region's products and services;
  • Excellent knowledge of market and customer analysis, distribution networks, advertising, and mass and social media;
  • Excellent knowledge of the products and services being promoted, the sector, and existing formal and informal networks.

WORK SCHEDULE
  • Thirty-five (35) hours a week;
  • Evenings and weekends on occasion.
SALARY
  • Based on current salary range - Annual salary starting at $80,501.
