Reporting to the General Manager, the Technical Services Manager is responsible for leading the Technical Services department. This includes Mine Engineering, Geology, Survey, Strategic Business Planning, Site Reporting, and general technical integration across the asset. This role plays a key role in supporting the entire mine site with a strong link to the General Manager/Operations manager, corporate, and future planning for the operation.
This position is expected to demonstrate and promote Blackwater Gold's eight (8) behavioural standards. The behavioural standards should be considered when developing the positions key responsibilities and deliverables, qualifications and experience, and skills.
Location: Blackwater Mine Site - located 160km southwest of Prince George
Schedule: Three (3) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation
Responsibilities:
Safety
Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds' safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
Mine Planning:
Lead the development of mine plans to optimize ore extraction and resource utilization.
Collaborate with mining, processing, maintenance, and finance to create optimized mine plans.
Lead development of high quality mine plans across all time horizons. 2 week, 3 month, annual, LOM.
Surveying:
Guide survey to ensure accurate data collection for mine planning and development.
Geotechnical Analysis:
Geotechnical stewardship over the mine design and operational implementation of the design.
Drill and Blast Planning:
Plan and optimize drilling and blasting activities to maximize ore recovery and equipment productivity.
Create and aid in safety measures related to blasting operations.
Environmental Compliance:
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations by implementing best practices in mining operations.
Develop and implement environmental management plans.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
Prepare and manage budgets for technical services and aid with inputs to mining budget.
General input, oversight, and assistance on all site budgets as required.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost control measures.
Communication and Collaboration:
Collaborate company wide to ensure seamless integration of technical services.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and other relevant parties.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Analyze data related to operational activities and provide regular reports to management.
Use data-driven insights to optimize operational processes and address challenges.
Technical services is the main owner of site production data. The data must be kept to a high standard and analyzed consistently to support operational excellence.
Develop, maintain, and regularly improve all internal and external reporting systems. This includes and is not limited to: mining, maintenance, processing, finance, safety, environment.
Contractor Management
Engage and manage contractors as required. Scope and execution of various site wide projects.
Strategic Business Planning
Lead development of the strategic business plan with input from all departments.
Coordinate operational and technical aspects on site, with corporate, and with the expansion project as it advances.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
Minimum 15 years experience in various roles within mining operations, with specific focus on development in various technical roles.
In-depth knowledge of mining engineering principles, including mine planning, drilling and blasting, geotechnical analysis, and production geology.
Familiarity with the latest technologies and software used in mining operations, such as mine planning software and geostatistical tools.
Experience in project management and the ability to coordinate activities across different departments.
Knowledge of mining regulations and environmental compliance standards.
Experience in developing and implementing plans to ensure operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Understanding of the economic aspects of mining operations, including budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis.
Start up experience considered an asset.
Gold mining experience an asset.
Ability to create a world class Mine Technical Services department.
