Position Summary



Bateman Mackay LLP is currently recruiting a full-time

Manager, Tax

to join our Tax Team. This this

hybrid role will be based out of our Burlington or Mississauga office as well as includes weekly work from home days.

As a Manager, Tax, you will hold a leadership position within the Firm, responsible for the day to day operation within the Tax department, fostering client relationships, and assisting with driving overall Firm success. This role is focused on the successful completion of client engagements (on time and on budget) and the development your team members. The role will be divided into two pillars:

Client work (Billable Hours)

Department Leadership (daily operation of the department; growth and mentorship of team members)

This position is ideal for an experienced and dynamic accounting professional with a strong technical background in public accounting, proven leadership, who is ready to contribute to the continued success and growth of BMCA.

Education

:

Bachelor's degree in Business/Accounting/Taxation or relevant subject, or College Diploma in Accounting

Completion of In-Depth Tax Course (required)

CPA Designation (required)

Experience

:

Minimum of 5-7+ years experience working in public accounting, with a minimum of 3-4+ years experience in tax focused position

Previous leadership experience in a public accounting Firm, mentoring Team Members to achieve goals

Role & Responsibilities



1. Client Relationship Management:



Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients understanding their unique business needs, serving as a primary point of contact, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality tax services

Participate in Firm and community events (networking events, conferences, speaking engagements, webinars, etc.), acting as a representative of the Firm

2. Departmental & Team Leadership:



Provide input to senior leaders of the Tax department on departmental planning, budgeting, and forecasting of processes and workflow

Recommend and participate in departmental, workflow and/or process improvements ensuring compliance with industry regulatory and internal policies

Play a key role in team development, including recruitment, retention, development, succession planning, and performance management

Act as an internal resource for Firm Team Members seeking guidance (including technical guidance on tax matters)

Fostering a positive and collaborative work environment based on accountability and trust; leading by example

Provide regular feedback to Team Members to support the ongoing growth and development of Team Members (both technical and personal growth)

Maintain awareness of trends and developments in the accounting industry, sharing knowledge and insights with other members of the Firm

3. Compliance and Client Work



Review of corporate, personal, and trust tax returns

Review of GST/HST and other indirect tax filings

Review of T1134/T106 and foreign affiliate reporting

Review of and guidance for CRA audit queries and leading the resolution of tax disputes

Ensure compliance with professional standards and firm policies

Identify risk areas and provide strategies for mitigation

Provide proactive tax planning strategies to minimize tax burdens

Advise on corporate reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions, and cross-border transactions

Support clients in succession and estate planning projects

Skills and Qualifications



Strong technical knowledge and experience with complex accounting and compliance, including an in-depth understanding of Canadian and Ontario tax legislation

Proficient in MS Office, and accounting software (e.g. CaseWare, TaxPrep, CCH iFirm)

Thorough knowledge and understanding of business concepts and government regulations, including HST/GST, EHT, WISB, payroll, and government assistance programs

Previous experience leading tax engagements including leading a team, ensuring projects are completed on time and on budget

Experience reviewing tax engagements (T1s, T2s, T3s, etc)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

Ability to work under pressure, balancing multiple deadlines and clients while maintaining a high level of accuracy and organization

Experience developing solutions with clients and Team Members through collaborative effort and discussion including cross-selling opportunities

Strong leadership and team management skills, including strong emotional intelligence and the ability to motivate and inspire others

Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning

Demonstrated high technical ability and quality of work, compliance with the Firm's policies and procedures, and professional ethics and integrity

Demonstrated financial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and make data-driven decisions

Must be legally qualified to work in Canada

Valid Driver's License and vehicle required
