Manager, Strategic Partnerships (Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival)

The Opportunity

and the associated World Tour programming reaches hundreds of thousands of people around the globe each year. The Manager of Strategic Partnerships is integral to both the success of Banff Centre Mountain Film & Book Festival, the World tour and year round programming, and to reaching Banff Centre\xe2\x80\x99s revenue targets. Playing a strategic leadership role from a fundraising revenue standpoint, this position manages relationships through cultivation and stewardship of stakeholders, and provides overall expertise within Banff Centre\'s sponsorship program.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, Marketing and Communications, and working collaboratively with the Director of the Festival and World Tour, below are some key responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Maintain a successful and robust sponsorship program for the Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival and World Tour, and also develop a broader strategy for sponsorship across Banff Centre\xe2\x80\x99s other properties and programs.
  • Cultivate and enhance authentic relationships both internally and externally to optimize revenue generation from sponsors.
  • Build awareness of Banff Centre among internal and external sponsors and engage them in the Centre\xe2\x80\x99s vision and plans.
  • Demonstrates respectful, effective, and appropriate communication to achieve divisional and organizational buy-in for sponsorship and partnership activities and initiatives.
  • Strategic relationship development and support is critical to the profile and viability of BMFBF programs. Sponsorship contributes to the success of festival programming budgets and supports related programming (such as Banff Adventure Filmmakers\xe2\x80\x99 Workshop, Mountain Writers Intensive, Banff Mountain Culture Residencies, and the Banff Mountain Photo Essay Competition).
Financial / Contractual / Budgeting / Forecasting
  • Manages a budget including revenues and expenditures with targets and parameters being reviewed and agreed annually.
  • Prepares initial draft of budget area for annual budget development within parameters set, which is then approved or adjusted in line with overall Banff Centre budget process.
  • Oversees handling of all day-to-day budget administration and management (invoicing, financial reconciliations, purchase orders, budget monitoring, etc.) within budget area.
  • Oversees accurate completion of monthly financial reconciliations for budget area.
  • Liaises with and provides relevant updates/reporting to colleagues in the Development office, Mountain Culture and Financial Services involving sponsors, foundations and granting agencies, and other relevant financial and budget matters.
  • Ensures contracts are in place (and filed) for sponsor and other relevant stakeholders as it relates to revenue and other commitments.
  • Ensures timely delivery of contractual obligations related to the festival\xe2\x80\x99s sponsors and funders.
  • Manage budgets related to sponsorships, forecasting future sponsorship opportunities, and assessing the financial impact of potential sponsorships.
  • Finding and securing revenue to meet annual and larger term targets through proactively initiating, developing, and maintaining long-term strategic alliances and relationships with sponsors, and donors.
  • The role also is responsible for generating advertising revenue to meet an annual target through various collateral related to the Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival, and for coordinating logistics with a publishing partner for the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour Magazine and Banff Mountain Festival Guide working collaboratively with Marketing & Communications officers in this process.
Contacts
  • Maintains regular and extensive verbal and written communication with sponsor, donor and agency representatives involving strategy, information exchange, stewardship. and negotiation of contractual obligations, work methods and procedures.
  • Ensures a good record and file management process is in place, recording and filing all material contact within relevant databases and filing systems.
  • Maintains extensive internal communication with the Mountain Culture and Events & Public Engagement team, Development team and professional staff of other departments in execution and delivery of responsibilities.
  • Keeps up to date and complete records in Raisers Edge including filing contact notes for prospect and sponsor interactions.
  • Participates in an ongoing metrics project with other front-line Development team members, tracking activity with current and prospective supporters towards monthly and annual targets.
Program: Sponsorship and Donor Relations
  • Develops overall yearly and multi-year plans and a critical path for each sponsor, agency and donor as well as an overall project/relationship management schedule and program; ensures timely follow-up and revision of schedules as required and approved.
  • Develops and implements on-going program elements for each sponsor, agency and donor based on complete understanding of each contract and strong relationship management practices.
  • Develops contracts and reviews with sponsors, funders and legal firm (as applicable) for internal approval and signing.
  • Writes or otherwise develops and presents customized proposals as required and arranges and participates in meetings with Banff Centre colleagues to strategize and discuss sponsorship and fundraising opportunities and tactics.
  • Ensures delivery of obligations to and strong relationship management of sponsors, agencies and donors including regular correspondence, promotional materials, hospitality, and all items listed in relevant agreements.
  • Prepares and delivers a superior hospitality package / weekend to sponsors during the Festival.
  • Initiates, manages and executes special projects and events for sponsors as needed.
  • Prepares and promotes strategic partnerships through Banff Centre written and electronic material.
Program: Special Projects
  • Coordinates and ensures implementation of special projects associated with the development strategy and Mountain Culture team as required
  • Provides valuable input in strategic planning for the Development office and the Festival and World Tour and other Banff Centre events.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of sponsorships, measuring the return on investment (ROI) for both the organization and the sponsor.
  • Shares information and opportunities with colleagues on the Mountain Culture team, Events & Public Engagement, Development and across Banff Centre.

Employment Terms and Benefits
  • In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, fulltime position, subject to a 6 month probationary period.
