SCOPE
Reporting to the Executive Director, Equity, the incumbent acts as the primary resource person for the SARC and helps foster a safe learning and working University environment by providing expertise in the support and response to cases of sexual violence as well as all sexual misconduct and sexual violence education, training and awareness-raising at the University as well as in the larger community.They will oversee the provision of a variety of supportive services to survivors of sexual assault, including, but not limited to, providing liaison both within the University as well as in the external community.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee SARC operations. This includes hiring, training, supervising and providing guidance to staff, volunteers and interns. Direct efforts to develop and maintain appropriate, professional and timely guidance, crisis intervention and support to University members on all matters related to sexual misconduct and sexual violence.
  • Prepare reports that shall include data collected regarding findings, analysis of trends, recommendations on training and education, valuable information for effective planning.
  • Chair the Sexual Assault Response Team (called to meet on an urgent and priority basis in the event of a reported incident of sexual violence). As Chair, act as the lead responder in cases of reported sexual violence; provide and/or coordinate case management of the file; coordinate the University's response and the resources offered, contact and work with all relevant departments/units to address related internal issues for the survivor/victim; and provide relevant departments with updates regarding court dates, court conditions, restraining orders and decisions.
  • Serve as a member of the Standing Committee on Sexual Misconduct and Sexual Violence. This permanent committee is responsible for the drafting, implementation and annual review of the University's policy on Sexual Violence; coordinating University-wide efforts to prevent and respond to smsv; addressing, implementing and monitoring the University's obligations under Bill 151; addressing, implementing and monitoring the task force recommendations and priorities and the climate review recommendations and priorities.
  • Develop and administer a communication strategy to inform the University community as to the services provided by SARC. This includes awareness raising campaigns and events as additional sources of education for the community at large. This could include a guest speaker, panel discussion, film and discussion event, art event etc. As well, provide information related to new issues arising in the field of sexual violence to individuals and departments involved in responding to sexual violence.
  • Collaborate with on and off campus partners to develop and deliver an education plan that will include campaigns, training, workshops, online and print resources, programs and events on the topic of sexual misconduct and sexual violence on campus and will also include related University policies, guidelines and processes
  • Establish close working relationship with senior administration, HR, UCS and student leaders for the annual roll-out of the on-line and in-person training modules. Liaise with all important stakeholders working on issues related to sexual misconduct and sexual violence.
  • Work with IITS to develop and maintain a data collection and management system suitable for the University's compliance with annual government reporting requirements on training of staff, faculty and students.
  • Act as the University's content expert for media relations.
  • Develop job knowledge and expertise through continual professional development as well as research/consult with other universities for the implementation of best practices.
  • Develops a communication strategy to inform students, staff and faculty of issues pertaining to sexual assault.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Social Work and four to seven years of related work experience.
  • Licenced member of the OTSTCFQ.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French in order to provide individual and group support to students, staff and faculty, as well as to consult with internal and external resources, maintain proper record keeping and develop workshops and programs. Knowledge of additional languages an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills with the ability to deal sensitively with individuals as well as to give workshops and speak to the media.
  • Superior ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism and discretion commensurate with the mandate of the SARC.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to work outside of normal operating hours.
  • Familiar with current research and best practices in providing support to survivors of sexual violence and prevention of sexual misconduct and sexual violence.
  • Approachability (is sensitive and patient with others). Composure (is a calming influence in a difficult situation).
  • Knowledge of the University environment and of the Quebec higher education system is highly desirable.
