POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Clinical for Critical Care and Emergency Services, the Manager of Medical Stepdown, and Respiratory Therapy Services is a member of the management team, responsible for the coordination and direction of clinical operations including areas of clinical services, education, research and human and fiscal resources management. The Manager collaborates with internal stakeholders including Program Managers, Clinical and Department Directors, Professional Practice Leaders and other interdisciplinary healthcare team members, and external partners.
The Manager of Medical Stepdown and Respiratory Therapy Services is accountable for planning, implementing, integrating and evaluating departmental plans that are in alignment with the mission, vision, and strategic directions of St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, including the development and initiation of new and innovative roles. The Manager is responsible to ensure staff within the clinical area effectively operate within their professional scope of practice as defined by their regulatory body, the College of Nurses of Ontario, within the Ministry of Health, and within the St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in related health discipline required
Master's degree related in business, quality, leadership or health discipline preferred
3 to 5 years of practical and related experience
Current registration within a Regulated Health Professional College
Progressive leadership or management experience in a healthcare organization
Proven ability to use data to analyze program performance and opportunities for quality improvement
Demonstrated understanding of applicable legislation
Demonstrated commitment to a patient and customer focused philosophy in all interactions
Experience managing fiscal resources within the allocated budget
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Determines the staffing requirements, including nursing skill mix and manages the recruitment, selection, retention and termination of all staff within the approved budget guidelines.
Demonstrated continued education in Leadership, Budgeting, Performance Management, Labour Relations, Coaching, Team Building, Research Skills, Teaching Skills
Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of direct reports
Fosters and ensures effective employee and labour relations through knowledgeable interpretation and implementation of hospital policies and collective agreements
Analyzes appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders for improving services and patient outcomes in accordance with MOHLTC, Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO), Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards, Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario (RTSO), and Accreditation Canada standards
Collaboratively ensures the excellence in patient care delivery and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring and risk management
Acting Critical Care flow lead, responsible for monitoring and contributing to corporate flow strategy in alignment with Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO) patient flow targets
Monitors and manages provincial databases that are specific to individual units or services.
Coordinates and submits the capital and non-capital equipment purchases for the department.
Fosters an environment that facilitates the use of evidence-based practices, ongoing professional development and interdisciplinary care, research and clinical evaluation.
Leadership and participation in program, portfolio committees (steering and quality), and task
Maintains knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory standards including RHPA and relevant Regulated Health Professional College
Confers with the Clinical Director or delegate regarding performance review.
Works in compliance with all applicable and relevant legislation such as WSIB, LTC legislation, Public Guardian and Trustee, Fire Code, etc. and all professional regulations.
Participates in the Manager On-Call schedule providing afterhours/ weekend/ holiday coverage 2-3 weeks per year
