Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan is a non-profit health care organization that serves the City of Vaughan and its?surrounding communities. It offers a 12-bed residential hospice.? As part of the community?since 1995, Hospice Vaughan also provides wrap-around support programs for?clients, their families and the greater community including Health System Navigation, Caregiver?Support, Day Programs, Wellness Programs, and Grief and Bereavement Support.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Residence Manager is a registered nurse who ensures professional evidence-based resident-centred care and support services in collaboration with staff, physicians and volunteers.
With warmth, compassion and professionalism, the Manager leads a team of 30+ registered nurses, registered practical nurses, personal support workers, and counsellors/ therapists to care for residents and their families. In addition to managing 12 beds, the manager oversees the Dietary/Kitchen functions and collaborates with housekeeping services to optimize residence standards.
The Manager is responsible for day-to-day management, program/policy development, planning and evaluation, quality assurance, risk management, financial and human resource management, clinical education and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. They also oversee education activities, support research, and increase awareness of the Hospice.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure services are guided by a model of care that is holistic, collaborative in nature and aligns with current evidence-based practice.
Manage assigned staff by ensuring overall performance standards are achieved, appropriate guidance and training is provided, staffing and scheduling levels are appropriate, regulated staff maintain their registration with the appropriate College, and staff have the necessary qualifications/certifications to perform the job
Lead initiatives re staff appreciation and recognition
Engage in interdisciplinary consultation/collaboration with external care partners as necessary to ensure client centred, evidence-based care within a continuum of palliative care
Ensure policies, procedures, protocols, and training are in place for such issues as Infection Prevention and Control, medication and equipment management, Risk Management, care planning and delivery
Ensure timely access to appropriate supplies, medical equipment, and devices
Obtain feedback regarding the care/service delivery directly from the residents and families while service is being provided and from the primary caregiver after service has concluded
Track relevant data with respect to service delivery and complete key performance indicator reports
Participate in internal and external committees, community, and information functions
Ensure there is an ongoing program to improve performance using routine measures of outcomes, resource utilization, adverse events, and stakeholder satisfaction
Ensure HPCO accreditation standards are maintained and that the required documentation remains current
Serve as co-chair of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
Work collaboratively with the Medical Director and other managers
Support fundraising activities in collaboration with fund development staff, and promote fundraising within the residence
Oversee student placements
Support research activities
Complete biweekly payroll
Position Requirements
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Baccalaureate degree or equivalent is preferred
Clinical experience in palliative care
Experience in leading and guiding an inter-professional clinical care team, ideally in a unionized setting
Demonstrated knowledge and experience re effective collaboration and conflict management
Demonstrated capacity for empathy
Completed palliative care education: ideally CNA Certification in Hospice Palliative Care (CAPCE), and Fundamentals of Palliative Care (LEAP) or commitment to pursue
Ability to be on-call on a rotational basis
Willingness to work on-site five days a week with occasional flexibility to work remotely; occasional evening and weekend work required
Willingness to perform any other duties to support the mission
