Job Description


Dalhousie Financial Services strives to provide the highest quality financial services and information to ensure the effective stewardship of University assets to the benefit of students and scholarly activities. Financial Services is a core service unit of the University, providing services in areas of financial accounting, budgeting, procurement, risk management, cash management, and financial systems and policies. Reporting to the Associate Director, Research Finance, the Manager, Research Finance will provide senior level finance and accounting support for Research Finance group.
Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for institutional financial oversight on all research contracts and all CFI (Canada Foundation for Innovation) awards, including the set up of new large or complex accounts, reviewing all financial reports for funding agencies, and reviewing information from large institutional projects.
  • Serve as a resource person/advisor to faculty, departmental administrators, support staff regarding the policies and procedures of the University related to financial administration.
  • Responsible for the ongoing financial audits and reporting responsibilities in the Research Finance group, including the research funding compliance program, the annual Single Audit report required by United States funding agencies, and all standalone funding agency audits.
  • Review and develop improved institutional research reporting.
  • Manage five members of the research accounting team in financial services, including interviewing, hiring, training, ensuring work is distributed effectively, ongoing daily supervision and performance management.
  • Provide support for the annual financial audit, preparation of annual financial statements and other annual and ad hoc financial reporting requirements.
Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a field such as Business, plus a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with at least five years\' post qualification experience
  • Strong leadership abilities, along with demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Must be able to exercise initiative and independent judgment in a complex organizational environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others.
  • Flexibility and creative problem-solving skills.
