Job Description


Summary: Seeking a motivated, people-oriented manager with experience leading remote/hybrid teams in publishing/communications or a related field. Leading a strong team of writers, translators and graphic designers, the Publications Manager oversees the development of publications for The War Amps, from idea to finished product. Under the direction of the Public Relations Manager, the Publications Manager ensures organizational needs are met and advanced. Ensures efficiency, quality of work, and successful completion of all projects by providing guidance and oversight to team members. Develops and executes campaigns and other print materials as directed by the PR manager and in concert with other divisions as needed. Job Requirements and Duties:

  • Responsible for the overall leadership of the Publications Division, including implementing new initiatives where needed
  • Approves content (text and graphics) of materials produced for amputees as well as the general public
  • Oversees workflow to ensure organization, efficiency, and that timelines are met
  • Provides guidance, feedback and approval to staff to ensure work is keeping with The War Amps objectives, voice, style and branding requirements
  • Leads in a positive, motivational manner
  • Responsible for staff hire, performance evaluation and supervision
  • Oversees division budget, approves invoices and material orders, and gives final approval of files before printing/ordering
Core skills and qualifications for this position include:
  • 5 years of work experience in a related field and preferably 1-2 years of experience leading a publications/writing/graphic design team
  • University degree in communications, media studies, journalism, management or a related field
  • Excellent people and project management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Growth mindset of continued learning and improvement; collaborative working style and good listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills
  • Knowledge of Canadian Press Style is an asset
  • Knowledge of publishing tools and practices is an asset
