Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Manager, Project Execution to join our Sustaining Capital and Asset Management department in St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, NL. Priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents and those who are willing to relocate to Newfoundland and Labrador.

This permanent position will be based in the St. John\'s office on a Monday through Friday schedule, with frequent travel to both the Long Harbour Operations and Voisey\'s Bay Mine Site.

The Manager of Project Execution is accountable to lead teams for the capture, ranking, budget submission, engineering, studies and project execution for sustaining capital and operating projects for the Long Harbour and Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay sites. In addition, the Manager is accountable for the interfaces between operations, other projects, project planning, scheduling, engineering, health and safety, procurement, project controls, supply chain, and execution delivery in relation to the overall project deliverables for both sites.

Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for the submission of the 5-year capital cycle plan. This includes scope, schedule and cost estimating to support the capital budget submission, risk ranking, capture tool input and project prioritization.
  • Have accountability for project field execution including direct accountability for health and safety, quality, field engineering, site construction, work scheduling, contract and goods purchase RFPs, contractual relations, commissioning, operational readiness and project handover.
  • Coordinate different project functions to ensure the project cost, schedule, scope, and execution plan is met.
  • Prepare the work plans, schedules, and budgets for VNL in conjunction with Operations, MTS, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Controls.
  • Complete Technical Evaluation of all Contracts and purchase agreements during the bid process, proving approval for proponents deemed technically capable to perform the work.
  • Approve field work instructions, directing contractors to execute work in accordance with the terms of contracts.
  • Manage contracting partners in the execution of the annual Capital and OPEX Portfolio.
  • Manage the impact of changes in scope, and the integration and impact of those changes to different functional areas.
About You

Education:
  • B.Sc. in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or equivalent.
  • Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) would be an asset.
Experience:
  • 11-15 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in project execution/management.
Skills:
  • Proven record of leadership and successful management of projects with a capital cost in the region of $100 million +.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of all aspects of Project Controls including costing, project tracking and scheduling software.
  • Must possess planning and problem-solving skills and be able to set clear, measurable goals.
  • Excellent time management without sacrificing quality. Ability to be organized, efficient and able to prioritize.
  • Strong negotiation skills, oral and written communication skills.
