Job Description


Reporting to the Operations Director of Professional Practice, IPAC & Allied Health Services the Manager Professional Practice, Allied Health & MAID Navigation Services will be responsible for supporting the strategic oversight for allied health professionals within the Speech Language Pathology, Social Work, Registered Dietitian and Registered Respiratory Therapy centralized programs at RVH. This role will work in partnerships with other leaders to understand the needs and challenges of the front-line Allied Health staff. In addition, the manager will work with the Professional Practice Leaders (PPLs) for the above-mentioned disciplines to support programs to drive practice excellence within the disciplines. The manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with administrative and clinical leaders. This role will also have the oversight of the RVH MAID Navigation service. The manager will demonstrate role modeling teamwork, communication, autonomous clinical practice, and a drive towards continuous improvement. The individual will work alongside the interprofessional team to champion the identification of quality initiatives aimed at optimizing the patient experience, improving support for staff in achieving quality patient outcomes.

In collaboration with the leaders within Professional Practice, the Manager Professional Practice, Allied Health & MAID Navigation Services will provide effective leadership for the staff within the department as well as support the individual needs of each program throughout the organization. Working with the interprofessional team the individual will be responsible for assisting with daily staff development, communicating change ideas, and sustaining quality initiatives to meet the program goals and objectives. This position will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement, and sustain best practices to improve quality of care and care models.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership:

  • Collaborates with the Professional Practice Department and other stakeholders to ensure that clinical practice is consistent with the vision, mission and values of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and meets the standards of Allied Health Colleges
  • Monitoring and evaluating the roles and responsibilities of the team members to ensure team members provide quality and safe patient care that aligns with organizational and regulatory college standards
  • Evaluate, optimize, and support onboarding and orientation processes of new clinicians
  • Ensures excellence in patient care and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring and risk avoidance
  • Ability to work effectively and demonstrates composure under pressure/stressful condition and to meet multiple and competing deadlines
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical workload measurement and utilize data to support decisions relates to the provision of clinical services
  • Provide leadership in development, maintenance, and evaluation of a collaborative operational structure
  • Investigate, design, lead and evaluate innovative practice changes through the Professional Practice Leaders
  • Participates in determining the strategic directions especially related to allied health professional by participating in academic and professional activities within the organization and with our community and academic partners
  • Contributes positively to patient care through the application of evidence-based practice. Leads Professional Practice Leaders to disseminate findings, promote clinical thinking and implement evidence-based practice
  • Provide strategic oversight for Allied Health professions activities related to the Interprofessional Advisory Council
  • Assume responsibility for budgetary planning, monitoring, and controlling human and financial resources
Program Support:
  • Assists with overall Professional Practice Department Planning
  • Collaborates with other managers, directors, and staff to develop short- and long-term plans for units or programs
Project Planning:
  • Plan and oversee various projects acting as the coordinator, facilitator and/or champion to ensure the successful execution of specific program plans
  • Identify quality improvement initiatives that will achieve program or corporate strategic goals
Human Resource Management:
  • Ensure that the patient care in the organization is consistent with the philosophy and values of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • A member of a regulated health discipline professional college in good standing - Allied Health disciplines will be given preference
  • Master\'s level preparation in a health-related field or education is required
  • Formal education in leadership and/or management essential
Experience:
  • 2 - 5 years current experience at a leader-level position required, preference given to experience also within professional practice
  • Previous project management and/or change management experience and participation in process improvement initiatives preferred
  • Experience leading and facilitating Corporate-Wide RNAO Best Practice Guidelines preferred
  • Presenter and/or author of local, provincial, or national publications and/or presentations preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of the MAID process, legislation, and the navigation of patients through the program.
  • Demonstrates a clear understand of RHPA legislation and discipline specific standards of care

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Other:
  • Working knowledge of computer, Microsoft Office, and Outlook applications
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Patient Information systems (i.e., Meditech)

  • Ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong interprofessional model of care
