Our Team:

Our corporate office, located in downtown Toronto serves as the headquarters for the global Base Metals business, providing support to all our Base Metals operations. In Mississauga, Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Base Metals Technology Development team work to improve Vale\xe2\x80\x99s competitive edge and support its growth strategies by coming up with safer and more environmentally responsible technology.

The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking a Manager, Procurement Regional Operations to join our Procurement Team in Toronto/ Mississauga. This is a permanent position.

The Job holder will report to the Head of Procurement & Inbound Logistics in North America (General Manager Procurement & Inbound Logistics North America), responsible to lead an annual procurement spend of approx. US$ 1,100 M for Canada operations (Ontario, Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador) for goods and services acquisitions.

Responsible to lead strategy definition, market analysis, commodities price monitoring (fuel, chemicals, metals, etc.), vendor management, technical analysis, commercial negotiation, contract legal terms and conditions and commercial contract management for critical procurement goods and services categories, such as chemicals, mobile equipment (parts & services), fuel, rentals, inbound and outbound logistics across NA, MRO, electrical, refractory, grinding media, etc. with main focus of driving TCO reduction/optimization and supply assurance. Ensuring business continuity and reducing disruptions to operations is of prime importance. The successful candidate would have experience in procurement transformation for large organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop a team of 29 people, including four procurement supervisors, to guarantee the leadership and guidance of all processes and activities, and close relationship with all stakeholders, clients, external organizations and Global Procurement team.
  • Develop and implement a risk map for critical raw materials / consumables / parts, implement actions to mitigate risks monitor risks and action plans implementation.
  • The role is of a complex nature involving managing a wide range of activities and different internal stakeholders, assuring the supply of items for business continuity, at the lowest total cost of ownership possible, achieving industry best practice standards of delivery time, quality of products and services, respecting all rules in place, including aboriginal agreements.
  • Influence/contribute to improve the efficiency of the business environment through the performance improvement of the supply chain and construction of an efficient communication channel with the line of business and suppliers.
  • Liaise and support the integration of activities between Global, Regional and Local Procurement teams.
  • Ensure that procurement strategies address the business needs, are correctly prioritized and delivered.
  • Guarantee the adequate resourcing of the multidisciplinary teams (made up of Local, Regional, Global procurement staff, line of Business, Suppliers, etc. executing procurement activities, delivering best value for the business
  • Maintain and provide understanding of North America industry best practices and technology trends to the Global, Regional and Local Procurement teams.
  • Staff and develop a high performing and engaged procurement team.
  • Coordinate multifunctional teams to improve strategic demands specifications, test new products and solutions, develop and implement material, equipment and alternative supplier in order to direct saving in procurement, reducing TCO and increasing the options market supplier globally.
  • Provide guidance and coaching in the related areas, such as Legal, Insurance and Taxes
  • Represent Procurement at various government, industry and supplier institution in the region of accountability.
  • Establish and maintain commercial relationships with its supply chain stakeholder fostering collaboration, innovation, sustainability, quality and safety.
  • Conduct technical visits to production facilities of suppliers, aiming technical update on materials, equipment and services purchased and the correct execution of contract.
  • Manage the implementation of technical agenda with strategic suppliers to obtain technical improvements and cost reductions for Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Operations
  • Manage the development and application of economic models for analyzing economic viability and comparative choices of materials, equipment and services and with a focus on reducing TCO.
  • Coordinate activities between Procurement team and the warehousing department to optimize working capital and service levels.
About You
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree is required.
  • Educational background in Engineering, Business, Commerce, Economics or Legal programs preferred)
  • MBA degree is desired.
  • Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) \xe2\x80\x93 an asset
  • Lean Six Sigma is preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 11-15years of experience in a similar subject area
Skills
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles and processes, Common law, commercial terms and procurement to pay business systems.
  • Technical understanding of mining, milling, smelting, and refining processes.
  • Ability to analyze, communicate, and negotiate the requirements and constraints of both technical and business perspectives.
  • Ability to analyze industries, companies, and supply chains.
  • Ability to develop strategies that minimize supply interruption risk.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Organized, self-motivated and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
