We invite you to be part of our evolution.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Manager, Portfolio, Partnerships, and Innovation to join our Technology & Engineering team in Toronto. This is a full-time position.This role will be accountable to coordinate the global Technology & Innovation Strategy and Programs for Vale Base Metals, accountable for managing the technology R&D portfolio for Base Metals. A key role in helping to set the strategic direction for the Vale Base Metals innovation and R&D portfolio, working as a trusted partner across the organization to help us understand the R&D investment portfolio strategy based on our value chain, opportunities and challenges within it and the technology readiness across the solution development roadmaps to drive sustainable business results. This role will support the Director of Research & Innovation functions by providing financial, economic, and business rigor around routine, projects, research & development plus technical consulting work. This includes being accountable for technology R&D across Base Metals and lead this process for all stakeholders in the identification, prioritization, and execution of this R&D.Additionally, in this position you will:

• Develop, execute, and govern the global Base Metals technology & innovation portfolio, including R&D expenditures and other activities through a robust transparent process that supports the Vale Base Metals Technology & Innovation strategy plan.
• Build relationships and interact collaboratively with the R&I stakeholders in many functions, including CoE, CIO, HSE, operational areas, Sustainability as well as with other stakeholders across Vale Base Metals to understand the key portfolio needs, drivers of success, and risks to our development plans.
• Lead the development of a standard for completing business cases for critical technology and innovation initiatives and manage this process to ensure consistent decision making across the company.
• Evaluate project investment scenarios, identify issues, develop hypotheses, and communicate insights and recommendations to key decision-makers.
• Build and manage relationships with universities, research institutions or non-profit organizations to build a pipeline of potential research and technology development partners aligned with technology development strategy and roadmaps.
• Develop scopes of work with research partners, evaluate and justify cost estimates, execute grants or contracts to implement, and support the active manage research projects.
• Proactively seek additional research incentives across different jurisdictions including grants and financial partnerships which are aligned with our Technology Development strategy and portfolio.
• Play a leading role in developing, educating, improving, and communicating for the business and financial management framework to manage technical assurance studies and projects in a professional, effective and efficient manner working across Base Metals Operations and Projects
• Work with R&I leadership to develop report-out materials for periodic review by executive leadership, including CEO, CFO, CTO
• Support the production of communication materials for the Board of Directors
• React to executive-level feedback with timely and thoughtful analyses and recommendations, producing critical communication presentations and documents for technical and executive audiences.
• Work with team members across CTO and other functions to help drive the implementation of strategic initiatives and report out on progress to leadership.

About YouEducation:

• Undergraduate degree.

Experience:

• Minimum 11-15 years of relevant experience

Skills:

• Strategic, analytical, and critical thinking abilities
• Ability to see the \xe2\x80\x9cbig picture\xe2\x80\x9d, with attention to detail where necessary.
• Engineering or technical qualification with an MBA preferred.
• International experience across different mining and/or metals environments (open pit & underground, processing)
• Ability to take ownership of the work and possess strong work and business management skills (resource, planning & work prioritization management, results focused, etc.)
• High level written and verbal communication skills. Able to write clear and concise reports. Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Capable of building strong relations through good communication skills, the ability to coach, and offer guidance regarding other aspects of operations, and business to technical personnel.
• Portuguese language capability preferred but not required.
