12 Month Contract Salary Range $55,000 - $67,500
Core Responsibilities Reporting to the President and CEO and Director of Policy and Government Affairs, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the execution of precise and impactful government affairs strategies, building coalitions and consensus across stakeholder groups that make a positive impact on the tourism industry in Ontario and Canada.
  • Building influential relationships with government ministers, key members of the opposition, staff and bureaucratic decision makers to ensure that TIAO is at the heart of the public policy and economic discussions.
  • Building a broad range of industry and third-party stakeholders to generate consensus, influence outcomes, and build relationships with new and existing stakeholders.
  • Work with the Director of Policy and Government Affairs to consult members and stakeholders to ensure that the association is accurately representing the industry to government and stakeholders with timely and relevant information.
  • Work with the policy team to track and respond to government consultations, ensuring that TIAO\xe2\x80\x99s policy recommendations are delivered across all ministries and departments.
  • Lead the organization of key lobbying events such as \xe2\x80\x98Tourism Day at Queen\xe2\x80\x99s Park\xe2\x80\x99, AMO and ROMA conference delegations.

The ideal candidate has:
  • A minimum of 2 years\' experience in a government relations field or a combination of related professional experience and education.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a legislative environment and a track record of taking conceptual policy ideas through policy development, stakeholder consultation to the passing of legislation.
  • A proven track record of building exceptional relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Excellent judgement, acts with professionalism and integrity and demonstrates leadership qualities in challenging environments.
  • A critical thinker that can understand and act to address short-term challenges whilst also recognizing long term trends and obstacles.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to take complicated information and disseminate clearly to a variety of audiences.
