Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Planning & Technical Potash, the Manager Planning & Technical Services provides leadership to a team focussed on the short-term design, optimization, planning and scheduling of underground development and early production of the Jansen mine. This position works closely with the Project Execution team to support the development and the delivery of the short-range mine plan through provision of the mine technical expertise required to successfully develop the mine, manage underground risks, support the site contracts, and develop the required capabilities for the future Operations Team. The Manager translates strategy into operational plans for the department.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

About the Role

  • Ensures sufficient resources are in place to meet demand for Jansen Execution in terms of survey, geology, ventilation, and mine planning
  • Implements systems, processes, and procedures necessary to support mining within the Planning & Technical function and to flow through into operations
  • Collaborates with other technical teams to translate long term objectives into actionable plans; communicates, manages, and analyses the implementation of those plans; and reports back on their progress to facilitate the delivery of our strategy
  • Supports underground mining contracts through mine planning, design, data collection, geological and geotechnical support and analysis, surveying, and ventilation; provides the necessary governance to monitor and audit the contractors
  • Directs the collection of technical data, provides technical guidance in the analysis of data, and carries out workplace inspections, while ensuring compliance to plan, budget, and contract
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP\'s risk management framework, and builds a risk-aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes
  • Acts as the first line of defense for material risks inclusive of ground fall, mine flooding, and air quality
  • Develops and delivers 90-day to 2Y plans for mine development and production in accordance with strategic or business objectives i.e., Jansen project execution plan(s) and alignment with 5YP and LoA
  • Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems
  • Makes evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives
About You
  • Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent degree
  • Ten years of relevant experience in mine engineering or related disciplines
  • Five years of relevant experience in underground potash or equivalent \xe2\x80\x9csoft rock" mining
  • Experience leading a technical team
