Reporting to the Director, Construction, the Manager, Planning & Project Management will play a key role in shaping the future of care by supporting capital planning and strategic projects across Scarborough Health Network (SHN). The manager will provide leadership and direction to a diverse team of Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Consultants and Senior Consultants, with expertise in capital planning, project management and improvement in one of Ontario\xe2\x80\xb2s largest community teaching hospitals.
This is an exciting management position for someone who has a passion for delivering projects that improve the patient experience and deliver key strategic priorities. The successful candidate requires effective people skills to coach a high-performing team in addition to building relationships with colleagues from programs and departments across SHN hospitals: Birchmount, General and Centenary. We are seeking an innovative, self-directed, results-oriented professional who will demonstrate a visionary and collaborative leadership style.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and coaching the corporate planning and project management team to deliver corporate-wide and program/department specific initiatives.
  • Evaluating opportunities to enhance our services as a \'one-stop shop\xe2\x80\xb2 for project management in the organization, including liaising with Managers and Directors across other programs.
  • Leading the review, development, and promotion of refreshed training related to project management and improvement methodologies, to meet our goal of coaching and building capacity across the organization
  • Co-chairing the Project Review Committee to facilitate a seamless intake and change control process for large projects
  • Communicating regularly with leadership on operational project status and obtaining guidance and approval as required to advance initiatives or utilizing influence and diplomacy to involve relevant stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Supporting organizational and regional planning initiatives and implementations in collaboration with other leaders and partners (e.g. clinical services planning).
  • Supporting corporate capital planning initiatives that emerge from the Strategic Plan, Broader Redevelopment Strategy, Multi-Year Plan, and Clinical Services Plan; e.g, program consolidations, Centres of Excellence, etc.
  • Establishing and sustaining effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, appropriately triaging requests and deploying resources to support both local and corporate projects and improvements.
  • Promoting a culture of patient and family centred care and Lean thinking in our engagement and improvement efforts.
  • Advancing the promotion of project and improvement successes at SHN through collaboration with internal communications and external organizations and opportunities.
  • Working toward continuously improving the department\xe2\x80\xb2s services through assessing current state efforts, collaborating with key stakeholders and leading the development of and/or improvements to department processes, including evaluating the quality of deliverables and the timeliness of delivery and support to our customers.
  • Supporting proposal/business case development and evaluation.
  • Liaising with external organizations to keep up-to-date in the areas of focus and development for the department, priorities of the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health industry trends, and opportunities for learning.
  • Providing leadership and consultation, mentoring and coaching to staff, and monitoring performance and workload.
  • Managing the portfolio operating budget and ongoing approval of expenditures.
Requirements:
  • Master\xe2\x80\xb2s Degree in a related program, such as Health Sciences, Health Administration or Business Administration (preferred)
  • Minimum (5) five years\xe2\x80\xb2 health care experience.
  • Minimum (3) three years\xe2\x80\xb2 leadership (management) experience (preferred).
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Project Management Professional and/or Change Management (Prosci) certification (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects using project management and change management best practices and quality improvement principles and applications.
  • High level of initiative and self-direction to mobilize teams to deliver on achievement of operational and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated coaching, facilitation and evaluation skills.
  • Experience working with Ministry of Health, Ontario Health and other external organizations
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary project teams including clinicians, program leaders, support services, external architects and engineers, patient family advisors, etc.
  • Advanced problem solving, decision making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to foster collaboration and teamwork
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Experience and comfort collaborating with internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels (hospital staff, clinicians, patients, health service organizations, community members, etc.).
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of government priorities of and changing provincial landscape with Ontario Health Teams
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, including stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), with experience creating presentations and briefing notes.
  • Demonstrated pattern of good performance and attendance record.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN\'s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service in interactions with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.
