Purpose:
York University\'s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is one of North America\'s premier educational and research institutions for the visual, performing and digital arts. The largest, most comprehensive program of its kind in Canada, we unite more than 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students and 300 full-time and part-time faculty working at the leading edge of creative arts practice and scholarship. The Performance Facilities unit facilitates the use of a wide range of performance and presentation venues in AMPD. Our state-of-the-art venues include the Tribute Communities Recital Hall, the Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre, Joseph G. Green Studio Theatre, McLean Performance Studio, and the Martin Family Lounge. Reporting to the Executive Officer, the Manager Performance Facilities is responsible for providing progressive management and functional leadership, strategic direction and implementing and maintaining operational best practices to ensure the provision of effective services to clients with a view to achieving the goals of both the unit and the School. The Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating business plans, financial and operational procedures, and encouraging a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement within resource constraints. In addition, the Manager is responsible, for business development and generating revenue through the rental of performance facilities by promoting AMPD\'s performance venues, actively seeking out partnerships within the York Community, the wider geographic community in surrounding regions and municipalities, and other performance and media arts organizations.

Education: University degree with a concentration in a relevant related discipline such as Arts, Theatre, Business Administration or equivalent education and experience.

Experience: Five (5) years progressive related experience managing large, professional performing arts facilities preferably in an educational setting. Some experience/background in business development, marketing, sales, and revenue generation would be an asset.

Skills:
Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of all aspects of theatre production, including audience/customer relations, Production Management, Stage Management, Technical Direction.
Knowledge of the basic principles of lighting, sound, scenery construction, rigging, flying, automation, and special effects.
Current knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Skills
Highly developed skills to work under pressure with a significant volume of work and competing time demands.
Familiarity with performing and media arts community.
Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and communicate with diverse groups of people.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent negotiating and problem-solving skill.
Proven ability to plan and administer a complex budget.
Ability to manage professional, technical, administrative staff in a unionized environment.

  • Compensation:
York\'s CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York\'s CPM Compensation Program.
