About Us
The Operational Accounting team provides transactional financial services, utilizing a Shared Services model, to the Province's departments, agencies, boards, and commissions. This includes centralized and integrated support and services in areas of payment production, corporate credit card management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, as well as month end, calendar year end and fiscal year end procedures, financial reporting and reconciliations and internal controls for transactional financial services for the Province. About Our Opportunity
This position reports to and is supported by the Director, Operational Accounting. The accountabilities include management of a shared services operational environment in the areas of Reporting and Reconciliation processes.
This position will provide you with progressive experience in the following:
-Management of a complex multi-client service delivery environment.
-Ability to meet deadlines while balancing competing priorities.
-Supporting and leading a team through implementing departmental strategies.
Primary Accountabilities
As the Manager of Operational Accounts, you will provide expert leadership and strategic management in the areas of:
-Providing financial and technical expertise on financial transactional services matters to internal and external clients.
-Management of shared service transactional business processes, ensuring they align with the strategic business plans of the department.
-Ensuring the internal control system is appropriately managed and operating effectively to safeguard assets of the Province.
-Developing and recommending policies and practices in support of sound, effective financial and administrative management.
-Managing human resources through recruitment, performance, attendance, and retention. Developing a high-performance team using measurable performance indicators to meet service delivery standards.
-Reconcile, balance, and issue annual T4 tax slips in compliance with CRA deadlines
-Providing excellent client service and support to government departments, agencies, and the public.
-Identifying business technology requirements to meet the ongoing efficient and effective performance targets of the division.
-Ensure annual public reporting requirements are met and ready for publishing.
-Ensuring that service delivery levels are monitored, and risks are appropriately mitigated.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in business administration or commerce and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA or CA) with a minimum of three years of experience post designation. Ideally, they have several years of progressive management/supervisory experience working with high volume processing teams in large ERP environments focused on client service.
The nature of the work requires professionalism and discretion to ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. You are an individual who thrives working in a team environment, maintains a client focused approach and can respond to requests with tact and diplomacy. It is also key that you work with a high level of accuracy, prioritize tasks/projects within competing deadlines, and have the demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgement.
The following would be considered an asset:
-Work experience in a government environment.
-Work experience in a shared service model environment.
-CRA tax rules and regulations
-Experience with SAP or large ERP
-Expert understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards
