At HFX Airport Hotel, we believe our guests select our hotel because of our employees who foster traditional Maritime Hospitality and who are dedicated to providing personalized service and meaningful experiences. Reporting to the Guest Services Manager, Director of Operations and General Manager to ensure the daily functions and requests of the hotel are met in a timely manner, in all forms of communication. Our supervisors need to possess strong leadership, communication, relationship skills, and a positive attitude. They are expected to support senior leadership by developing and assuming basic management responsibilities. This role leads other associates by coaching, giving direction and training. Managers on Duty lead the agents whom are responsible for the guest registration process and communication of hotel services and promotions. This highly visible role gives opportunity for casual conversation and has a direct impact on creating the guest experience. This role also requires the ability to stand for long period of time, ability to work a variety of shifts (covering last minute sick calls, 12 hours shifts), evenings, weekends and holidays. Prior hotel experience as well as multilingualism is an asset, not a requirement.

As well as everything listed above, they are also responsible to oversee all areas and department of the hotel when required, such as Housekeeping, Shuttle, and, Meetings/Groups and Events. Keep in mind the front desk is a large focus of the Manager on Duty job which includes overseeing all Guest Services agent responsibilities such as.

Processing forms of payment and refunds for guest accounts. Responding to guest inquires over the phone or in-person. Answering phone calls swiftly and appropriately. Creating reservations in Sky Touch, modifying reservations based on guest requests, cancelling reservations. Answering questions about the hotel and its services to the guests.
On top of that, Managers on Duty are also responsible for;

Having excellent customer service and communication skills. Resolving any guest complaints and escalating it to higher management if necessary. Adapting quickly to unexpected events related to guests and the hotel itself. Keeping track of the number of vacant rooms, reservations, and the hotel room block. Using that information, keep the occupancy rates high but also have rooms available to move guest reservations to resolve any unsolvable issues. Keep all reservation and hotel information up to date on 3rd party websites and answer any guest inquiries in the chat function. Respond to any guest reviews on Medallia and Extranets you see. Inspecting any vacant rooms remaining after the housekeeping supervisor is gone. Doing routine hall checks including the pool area, workout room and staff room. Ensure the staff doors are closed and locked when they are supposed to be. Set up/tear down for meetings in the hotel. Fill for the housekeeping supervisor or guest services agent shifts during your regular shift in case of any staff shortages or sick calls. Ensure the guest services agents are dressed appropriately and on top of their tasks to ensure peak productivity. Passing along anything important to the next shift. Put as much detailed information as possible in the shift notes. Ensure you've caught up on all previous shift notes and are informed of exactly what happened in each situation.
