Guided by the Districts vision, and mission, the Manager of International Student Program (ISP) Homestay will work closely with the ISP team, under the direction of the District Principal International Education and the Assistant Superintendent responsible for International Education to effectively manage the operational components of the International Student Homestay Program.
The Manager of International Student Program (ISP) will have specific responsibilities in the areas of promotion and marketing, records and file management, communication with many stakeholders and leadership experience with larger projects.

The Board of Education
The key focus for the Kamloops-Thompson Board of Education is improving student achievement. The Board plays an essential role in the public education system by addressing the interests of students through local decision-making with an engaged community.
As locally elected representatives, the nine Board of Education trustees represent the Kamloops-Thompson communities particular strengths, challenges and demands. They engage with communities in building and maintaining their local school system to reflect local priorities, values and expectations.
The Board shares a co-governance relationship with the provincial government through the Ministry of Education and Child Care. The BC School Trustees Association supports the Board in this relationship.
School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson)

Serving approximately 16,000 students, 2,700 students of Indigenous ancestry, in 48 schools, our District offers a variety of enhancement programs, including: French immersion, International Baccalaureate, sports academies, trades programs, a K-12 fine arts school, Montessori, and an elementary science and technology school. School District No. 73 is located on the territory of the Secwepemc Nation and serves 7 local bands and the Metis Nation in a large geographical area.
Our District covers more than 27,000 kilometres and busses about 4,000 students more than 9,000 kilometres every day. We have 34 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, one Kindergarten-to-Grade 12 school, one alternate education program and one distance education school. We employ nearly 3,000 people and have an annual budget of approximately $200 million.
The Region
Situated on the traditional, unceded territory of the Secwepemc people, the centre of our District is the city of Kamloops, which has a population of more than 97,000 people. The District extends to Pinantan Lake, Heffley Creek, Sun Peaks, Barriere, Clearwater, Vavenby and Blue River to the north, Logan Lake to the south, Savona to the west and Chase and Westwold to the east.
Position Responsibilities
Promoting the Homestay Program and the value of International Student Programs in the community
Overseeing and working with the School District No. 73 Communications Department for the recruitment of prospective homestay families through a variety of methods
Working with the District Principal to maintain, and revise homestay family application and selection processes, contracts/agreements, a homestay family handbook, records, student handbook, student placement processes and homestay profiles to meet program, district, and governmental needs and requirements and to reduce and mitigate risk
Coordinating and managing the vetting and selection process for homestays (including reviewing applications, facilitating Criminal Record Checks, home visits and collecting other relevant information)
Making homestay placements for short term, semester, full year and summer students
Maintaining the homestay component of the True North database
Providing regular communication to homestay families through the True North database
Provide presentations to students (one-on-one or as part of an orientation) on how to be successful in a homestay environment
Ensure that students have the proper documentation and permission when travelling outside the Kamloops area
Tracking arrival and departure information of students and meeting them with their homestay families at the airport upon arrival
Providing orientation to new families and ongoing in-service training and education for returning homestay families
Providing homestay profiles, in a timely manner, to agents for their incoming students
Support homestay families and students with the coordination of medical plans and assist in hospital visits, including medical claims
Providing written reports to the District Principal International Student Program as requested
Attending meetings as requested by the District Principal International Student Program
Problem-solving student and homestay related issues as they arise
Provide pick-up/drop off support for emergency homestay moves
Availability for evening and weekend on-call duties
Perform all related duties as assigned by the District Principal International Education and Assistant Superintendent responsible for International Education
Superintendent and Board Relations
Establishes and maintains positive, professional working relations with the Superintendent, honouring and facilitating the implementation of the Boards roles and responsibilities as defined in Board policy and encourages staff members to do the same
Provides information that the Superintendent requires to perform, in an exemplary manner, the Superintendents role; and provides support to the Board of Education and Secretary Treasurer to carry out legislative and governance roles and responsibilities of the Board

The Right Candidate
You are an experienced International Student Program leader with a degree certificate or equivalent combination of experience in the field of international education. You are passionate about interpreting the meaning of information for others and collaboratively developing objectives and strategies for the promotion and marketing of the International Student Program. Along with your proven expertise in working with international families, you have skills in building positive, collaborative professional relationships. You offer excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills when working with internal and external stakeholders.
You demonstrate:
Highly effective interpersonal and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrated organizational and management skills including the ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team
Excellent leadership skills, using tact and good judgement, especially when faced with stressful situations
Ability to use standard office equipment, proficiency with MS Office, True North, database programs and administrative software
Fluency in spoken and written English
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree, certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience working in a homestay service or program
Experience in marketing
Experience working with international students and demonstrated cross cultural understanding and sensitivity
A valid BC drivers license, business use insurance and a safe driving record
Ability to work extended hours, weekends and evenings as required
