Job Summary
Labrador-Grenfell Zone has an immediate and exciting opportunity for an inclusive and visionary leader as Manager of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety. Reporting to the Zone\'s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the Manager of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety will work closely with the Director of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety (reporting to the Vice President, Transformation Well-Being). The Manager will support the Director in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of an organizational approach to the delivery of culturally-safe care to Indigenous Peoples in Newfoundland and Labrador, and will be the lead to implement approaches within the LG Zone. The Manager of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety will work collaboratively with the Director of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety, Indigenous and community partners, LG Zone and physician leaders to improve access to LG Zone services, deliver culturally-safe care (as defined by the people served), and improve health system experiences and health outcomes for Indigenous Peoples living in the LG Zone.
Key Responsibilities
" Support the Director of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety to develop and lead the implementation of a cultural safety framework for NLHS.
" Work with LG Zone leadership, Indigenous and community partners to implement the framework within NL Zone.
" Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Indigenous partners and communities.
" Facilitate community engagement to inform the identification of opportunities for equity, diversity, and inclusion through a distinctions-based approach to access culturally-safe and high quality care for Indigenous Peoples within LG zone.

" Provide support to Indigenous Health Navigation within the LG Zone, including that which is provided through both the NLHS and the Indigenous communities themselves.
" In partnership with Indigenous communities, facilitate the implementation of Indigenous-led curriculum modules to inform non-Indigenous providers on the legacy of colonialism, its ongoing impact to the health outcomes of Indigenous Peoples, and facilitate change towards a culturally-safe health care system.
" Provide support, and act as a resource, for health care providers and other LGH staff regarding the provision of culturally-safe care.
" Work with program leadership to enhance the patient and family experience of Indigenous Peoples through the development of efficient, patient-centric care pathways, working within a person- and family-centered care (PFCC) framework.
" Promote a health care environment that is free of racism and discrimination.
" In partnership with Indigenous health and community leaders and partners, develop and measure key performance indicators in the areas of access, collaboration, cultural safety, and health outcomes.
" Participate in quality improvement initiatives based on outcome measures.
Job Qualifications
Education
" Post-secondary education in a health, social science, political science, public policy, or other related field.
Experience
" Minimum of 5 years related experience.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
" Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are Indigenous.
" Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
" Demonstrated knowledge and experience of person- and family-centred care philosophy.
" A high degree of cultural competence as it relates to working with Indigenous Peoples, and an understanding the politically sensitive nature of working with multiple culturally diverse individuals and groups.
" Demonstrated understanding of Canadian colonization, Indigenous-specific racism, and the impacts on current health and wellness of Indigenous Peoples.
" Experience and/or knowledge of the provincial health system and LG Zone community-based resources.
" Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and application of cultural safety and competency within provincial systems.
" Knowledge or experience with electronic health solutions (i.e. EMR, electronic health records, virtual health).
" Good understanding of the geographical challenges in accessing health services and resources (including internet and phone resources) that may impact access to care.
" Broad knowledge of Indigenous history and cultures in Labrador.
" Ability to use sound professional judgement, empathy, compassion, and integrity.
" Advanced oral and written communication skills, including effective presentation and facilitation skills.
" Ability to build trust and cooperation and to motivate others towards achievement of deliverables and goals.
" Skills in group facilitation, conflict resolution, and group dynamics.
" Ability to plan, develop, implement, manage, and evaluate system changes, applying quality improvement principles and processes to change initiatives.
" Ability to work independently and utilize strong time management skills to accomplish program objectives.
" Knowledge of change leadership, system transformation, teambuilding, and quality improvement methodology considered assets.
" Work effectively in a computerized environment utilizing standard Microsoft Office applications.
" Ability to speak or understand any of the Indigenous languages spoken in Labrador-Grenfell Zone considered an asset.
