Job Description


FIREFLY is seeking a full-time Manager of Communication. This position may be located in any FIREFLY office location.
The Manager of Communication is an integral member of the Agency\xe2\x80\x99s management team working closely with the Strategy and Performance Team (SPT) to support the implementation of the strategic plan and annual operational plan while working within strict budgetary rules and guidelines to ensure the growth and success of the agency. The Manager of Communication, in collaboration with the SPT, plans, develops, implements, and monitors internal and external strategic communications to meet organizational strategies and needs. The Manager of Communication is a big-picture thinker, anticipating the needs, questions, and issues that may arise both internally and externally and works closely with SPT to address these through the communication role. The Manager of Communication promotes the mission, vision, and values of FIREFLY and supports the development and implementation of FIREFLY strategies, goals, and objectives while abiding by policies and procedures and any applicable legislation.
Key Job Functions:

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of FIREFLY\xe2\x80\x99s communication strategy in support of FIREFLY\xe2\x80\x99s mission and vision:
    • Create communication strategies for new projects, events, and initiatives.
    • Develop communication campaigns that raise awareness and promote FIREFLY\xe2\x80\x99s services to target demographics and/or communities.
    • Establish internal communications processes to ensure staff are informed and updated on key FIREFLY information and initiatives.
    • Create and maintain connections and working relationships with internal stakeholders to develop and execute communication strategies.
    • Support the SPT with strategic internal communication.
  • Responsible for maintaining and ensuring adherence to the FIREFLY Brand Guide:
    • Create and update marketing materials and documents in support of programs.
    • Coordinate and support staff communication projects, outreach, and products as needed.
    • Oversee the procurement and distribution of FIREFLY\xe2\x80\x99s promotional materials.
  • Responsible for owning and implementing social media strategy across various channels:
    • Lead digital execution across email, website, and social media platforms of engagement campaigns throughout the year.
    • Create and publish a variety of digital content with a focus on producing engaging social media content and the FIREFLY website that is visually appealing and provides an overall rich experience for clients, families, partners, and followers. Manage all posts to ensure content is on-brand as well as search- and social-optimized.
    • Develop and implement social media campaigns for key days, themes, and priority upcoming programs. Keep the SPT and Leadership Team informed of upcoming topics, news, milestones, and external opportunities. Track and share results for continuous improvement to targeting and segments.
    • Promote new content, key pages, and calls to action across channels. Position content to target different segments and to fit the format and publishing requirements of each platform.
    • Produce email campaigns, solicit content from internal expertise and manage the review, testing, and distribution of same.
  • Contributes to improvements in the organization\xe2\x80\x99s structures and work processes.
  • Responsible for ensuring FIREFLY meets legislated communication standards.
  • Effectively manage day-to-day priorities, handling multiple projects, while having the flexibility to pivot to priority situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Effectively manage complex and sensitive situations.

Education/Experience/Skills Required:
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • A minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in strategic communication.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, including content creation and reporting on social media reach/effectiveness.
  • Experience with Hootsuite, Canva, WordPress, SharePoint, Teams, and MS Office Suite.
  • Must be able/confident to make recommendations and/or pitch ideas for communication strategies to SPT.
  • Must be a creative and strategic thinker with good judgment and the ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment.
  • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Formal training in change management practices is an asset.
  • Proficiency and confidence to deliver effective presentations to a large audience.
  • Capability to meet demanding deadlines and complete a high volume of diverse projects with a great degree of initiative and independence.
