About Our Opportunity

The Manager of Assets is primarily responsible for fulfilling the duties as prescribed under the Asset Management and Distribution Act of Nova Scotia. The duties include, but not limited to the management and disposition of property that has been seized and forfeited to the Crown under the Criminal Code and the Civil Forfeiture Act and maintenance of the funds collected in the Forfeiture Account. In this role, you will report to the Director of Policing Programs.

As the Manager of Assets, you will be responsible for -
  • Developing policy and procedures regarding seizure and disposition of assets in partnership with police agencies and the Prosecution service.
  • Providing briefings and advice to senior Department of Justice officials regarding seized property and its disposition.
  • Keeping meticulous records of property seized and disposed of and provide annual reports to the Minister of Justice as prescribed in the Assets Management and Disposition Act.
  • Developing partnerships with Law Enforcement and Prosecution Service. These partnerships will ensure the development of policies and procedures that are transparent and meet the highest standards or legality and fairness.
  • Networking extensively with similar positions and bodies in other jurisdictions to ensure that Nova Scotia has the most effective program for the management and disposition of seized assets.
Qualifications and Experience

As a successful candidate, you hold a university degree in Commerce, Law, Social Sciences or a related field in addition to at least 5 years of related experience working in: financial sector or law enforcement or asset management and disposition or accounting. An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered.

You must have the ability to use relevant office software and keep meticulous records. As an ideal candidate, you must demonstrate -
  • self-motivation, initiative and organizational skills to effectively handle multiple tasks and high-volume workloads. This will include the ability to make decisions in a multi stakeholder environment.
  • sound judgement in handling highly confidential information.
  • excellent communication skills both written and verbal and experience in giving presentations.
Following will be considered an asset-
  • Experience in a regulatory environment with an emphasis in interpreting and applying relevant sections of provincial statutes and the criminal code.

Working Conditions

Primarily working in an office environment with some site visits to asset locations. Travel is expected throughout the province and a valid driver's license is required

Additional Information

This is a two-year term position based in Halifax with an anticipated end date of January 3, 2025.

Pay Grade: EC 11

Salary Range: $3,143.79 - $3,929.78 Bi-Weekly
