Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.


The VP, Medical Affairs and Chief of Staff is currently seeking a Manager, Medical Affairs. The purpose of the position is to support all aspects of the Medical Affairs portfolio, including medical human resources, medical quality of care, governance processes such as credentialing, Board reports and activities, and strategic initiatives sponsored or supported by the VP. They provide effective, efficient, and confidential managerial, technical and administrative support, providing a critical interface with the Medical Affairs office for internal and external stakeholders including physicians. Supports the physician leadership team in advancing quality of medical care in collaboration with key Hospital resources e.g. team members from Quality, Patient Safety, and Risk portfolios, Professional Practice, Decision Support, Clinical Informatics, Project Management. Provides knowledgeable guidance on adherence to legislation, by-laws, and policies. Has a strong customer service focus. The Manager will partner with the physician leadership team in advancing quality of medical care and strategic initiatives in collaboration with key resources.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:



Advance strategic priorities and projects of Medical Affairs, in collaboration with the project management office, and other internal and external leaders and stakeholders listed above. Lead and/or support quality improvement (QI) and patient safety in medical care, including reviewing patient complaints, adverse events and quality of care concerns, implementing improvements, creating, monitoring and improving performance metrics, advancing the implementation of Health Quality Ontario quality standards. Work collaboratively with Medical Directors to develop and execute a plan to support all aspects of physician, nurse practitioner (NP) and physician assistant (PA) recruitment, in accordance with the medical HR plan. Coordinate the work of the Board's Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), including developing the agenda, following through on MAC business, developing reports for the Board, revision and approval of policies, engaging leaders across the hospital, and overseeing the flow of work between the MAC and its various committees. Be accountable for the review and approval of all MAC approved or facilitated policies including by driving the activities of MAC subcommittees and partnering with Directors across the organization to write and revise policies, procedures and medical directives. In partnership with physician leaders, author and maintain up to date and effective professional staff rules and regulations and related Medical Affairs policies and procedures. Contribute to performance assessment and management of physicians by supporting the physician leadership team. Partner with physician leaders and external regulatory bodies to develop quality/performance measures, bring forward data to Business Review Meetings. Work closely with the Quality, Patient Safety and Risk teams and Medical Directors to facilitate the timely investigation and response to complaints involving credentialed staff, resolving day-to-day concerns at their discretion. Support medical education at Waypoint by liaising between Medical Affairs and other portfolios that are advancing Medical Education and assisting physician leaders and physician preceptors. Supervise the Consent and Capacity Board Coordinator, including day to day management, arranging coverage for absences, and conducting annual performance review. Manage contracted services, including dentistry, optometry and chiropody. Advise the physician leadership team in budgeting for physician services, influencing recruitment and program development. Participate in collective bargaining as a member of the Management team.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:



Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferably a clinical degree or otherwise health/business administration Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated leadership experience required Quality improvement and implementation science knowledge and experience preferred Project management certification, knowledge and experience is an asset Relevant legislation e.g. Public Hospitals Act, Mental Health Act and Healthcare Consent Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Personal Privacy Act, Broader Public Sector Accountability Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act Advanced functions of Microsoft Office Suite Develops coalitions and relationships to mobilize knowledge and action across and beyond the organization; contributes to a healthy and high performing team and has a strong customer focus Demonstrates curiosity, thinks critically, and analyzes data to identify, conceptualize and solve problems in a complex interdisciplinary environment Takes the initiative, looks to the future and to external sources to identify and anticipate emerging trends and best practices Works independently and follows through, holding themselves accountable for achieving results Flexibility and resilience to readily adapt to a changing work environment Superb oral and written communication skills and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills Supports the hospital's mission, vision, values, strategic plan, programs, departments, activities, and stakeholders to work in alignment and collaboration at all times
