The Role and Opportunity
Our Manager, Marketing and Communications, will build and maintain the foundational functions of external communications including organizational marketing. You will leverage your strong writing and communications skills to champion our brand and implement innovative communication and marketing plans & strategies to leverage external stakeholder engagement and its impact on philanthropic activities. Through close collaboration with our Manager of Internal Communications, you will ensure our external communications remain aligned with our brand and key messages.
Reporting to the Chief of Philanthropy, the Manager, Marketing and Communications is responsible for producing external marketing and communications strategies that advance CMHA Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s brand visibility, reach and impact. This role will be responsible for the strategic oversight and management of CMHA Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s annual communications calendar and plan to integrate with and compliment internal communications while advancing philanthropic strategies, advocacy and awareness. The Manager, Marketing and Communications will serve as an integral member of the Philanthropy team and will work closely with CMHA Toronto leadership to develop and deploy messaging to advance and differentiate CMHA Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s brand and positioning within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The Manager, Marketing and Communications will have a knowledge and understanding of current communications and marketing trends and practices and will utilize strategies that promote anti-racism and anti-oppression.

1) External Communications
Champion CMHA Toronto, our brand, and our impact both internally and externally
Oversee the strategy for media relations including proactive pitching in alignment with key themes and top of mind subject matter while serving as the point person for media inquiries.
Maintains CMHA website in collaboration with web developer to ensure effective promotion of CMHA programs, services, campaigns and initiatives in accordance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and standards.
Works closely with internal communications staff to ensure brand and key message alignment between internal and external communications.
Communicating program and organizational initiatives across web, print and media outlets.
Coordinate with CMHA Ontario and CMHA National when and where required to execute coordinate communications campaigns and national/provincial advocacy.
Work cross-departmentally to develop, implement, execute and evaluate marketing campaigns and strategies to fulfill program and service mandates.
Develop communications plans and marketing strategies including but not limited to creative concepts and design, SEO, websites and micro-sites, briefs, social media, Google AdWords, print and digital media/marketing, etc.
Responsible for copy writing where and when required and works collaboratively with CMHA Toronto department areas and leadership to effectively communicate programs, services, fundraising and awareness raising campaigns.
Provides leadership to CMHA Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s annual communications calendar ensuring internal integration and alignment with annual campaign strategies.
Develop, implement and evaluate marketing strategies for CMHA Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s annual signature fundraising events and campaigns, digital appeals and annual campaign strategies where required.
2) Strategic Planning & Engagement
Develop and implement innovative communications and marketing strategies and plans while developing and maintaining the foundational functions of external communications.
Develops and implements brand strategy that is aligned with CMHA Ontario and CMHA Nationals brand guidelines.
Develop and support tactical communications and marketing plans, campaigns and strategies that deliver focused and measurable results.
Identify opportunities with media relations to raise visibility on program initiatives and impacts.
Identify opportunities to raise visibility of program initiatives and impact with donors, community members, customers and other stakeholders.
Continuously ensuring that the focus of our services achieves excellence both at a strategic and operational level.
Being proactive, taking initiative and identifying/implementing quality improvement opportunities.
Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external relationships to advance philanthropy and communications strategies.
Provides leadership in achieving new marketing and communications opportunities through grant or in-kind opportunities through corporate and vendor engagement.
Strengthens and develops CMHA Toronto staff capacity to adhere to organizational brand guidelines and develops resources for staff to confidently become brand ambassadors.
Collaborates in the development of the agency\xe2\x80\x99s philanthropic department and collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Board on communication goals identified in the 2022-2026 strategic plan.
3) Content Development
Communicating program, service and organizational initiatives across web, print and media outlets.
Write, edit, design, and produce content for a range of products on behalf of the agency annual reports, scripts and speeches, press releases and media advisories, agency and program brochures, e-newsletters, and promotional materials and digital content (website, blog posts, social media, etc).
Maintain the design, content, and production of all marketing materials adhering to CMHA Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s brand guidelines and in accordance with (AODA) standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Edit and refine communications and marketing materials to ensure written and digital content is punchy, brief and persuasive with a goal to engage all defined audiences.
Identify opportunities, engage and respond with media relations, government relations, donors, community members/partners, and other stakeholders to raise visibility on program and agency initiatives and impacts.
Prepare CMHA Toronto spokespersons for stakeholder and media engagement opportunities including preparing briefing notes, key messages, writing speeches and developing scripts.
Monitor and report on effectiveness of communications activities to measure success and enable continuous improvement and evolution of communications strategies.
Coordinates the design and production of electronic and written communication, including the annual report, e-newsletters, facts sheets, promotional materials and online content (website, digital marketing and social media), working closely and collaboratively with philanthropy team
Prepares the CEO and Chief Philanthropy Officer and other staff for stakeholder and media engagement opportunities including preparing briefing notes, key messages and writing speeches.
Having a collaborative, open and client-centered approach with clients, team members, partners and community stakeholders.
Develops and implements appropriate systems to ensure monitoring of projects and initiatives in compliance with work schedules, objectives and key results.
Identifies and evaluates risks associated with CMHA Toronto brand identity and reputation and works with leadership to take appropriate action to mitigate and control the risks
Manages and monitors communications and marketing budgets and works with appropriate staff and leadership to implement and evaluate spending plans.
5) Digital Engagement & Social Media Activities
Develop and execute social media strategy across all channels including but not limited to: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn.
Produce regular social media content, oversee social media calendar and lead the digital execution of fundraising, awareness and advocacy campaigns.
Develop and oversee annual editorial calendar.
Engage with local influencers and community members online through social media accounts.
Oversee digital marketing and engagement strategies across channels including social media marketing (paid and organic), online advertising, Google Ads, SEO and content marketing.
Expand CMHA Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s online presence by increasing video content to power mission forward storytelling and impact.
Skills You Bring
Degree or post-graduate diploma in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related field, experience in social services is an asset.
Three (3) to five (5) years of external communications experience.
Excellent writing, editing and communications skills to foster engagement.
Experience with Microsoft platforms such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Experience with MailChimp, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, Canva and WordPress.
Ability to conform to brand management standards and alignment with mission, vision, values.
Strong executive communications experience, writing and tailoring content for specific audiences that demonstrate a deep understanding of key messaging and stakeholder needs.
Fearless when embracing new technologies to enhance external communications.
Exceptional relationship building skills and able to manage or contribute to multi-functional and multi-level teams.
Knowledge and understanding of current communications and marketing trends and practices while utilizing strategies that promote anti-racism and anti-oppression is an asset.
Experience developing promising and engaging communications campaigns.
With communications constantly changing, you can adapt and change directions, you are comfortable working at a fast pace.
