About the Opportunity

The responsibilities of the two Manager positions are divided into one manager overseeing the QEII site and the second manager overseeing the remainder of the Central Zone.

The two positions are:
Manager - Maintenance and Operations (QEII)
Manager - Maintenance and Operations (Regional, Community & Rural)

Reporting to the Director, Maintenance and Operations, the Manager, Maintenance and Operations has responsibility for the physical operations and maintenance of Nova Scotia Health\'s infrastructure, plant operations, facility maintenance, and major asset maintenance in multiple facilities, in fulfilment of the overall goals of maximizing efficiency while aligning the provision of the environmental space needs of customers and stakeholder program delivery needs.

The Manager, Maintenance and Operations is responsible for ensuring Nova Scotia Health\'s buildings and equipment are maintained and operated in accordance with proper national standards for facilities and equipment, as well as for safe patient care and infection prevention and control. The Manager will oversee the, coordination and management of employees and contractors within the zone related to buildings, equipment and infrastructure by leading ongoing facilities management, operations, and maintenance activities for a diverse and complex range of asset types.

The Manager, Maintenance and Operations must ensure safe patient care and staff work environments are being planned and maintained within the facilities for which they are responsible.

The diversity of the owned as well as leased real estate portfolio is also one of the largest in the province, and includes urban, rural, primary care tertiary and quaternary care, continuing care, etc. services included within these facilities to be maintained and operated by this role. The Manager, Maintenance and Operations must ensure safe patient care and staff work environments are being planned and maintained within the facilities for which they are responsible.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • A registered Engineer in a relevant Engineering field such as Mechanical, Electrical or Civil along with P.Eng designation required with 5 years\' experience in a leadership role within building infrastructure or facilities management required OR certified Journeyperson / Power Engineer / Bachelor\'s Degree in a technical field with 8 plus years of management experience relating to facilities management.
  • Proven technical experience and knowledge of physical assets including but not limited to steam plants, hot water boilers, HVAC systems, building control systems, chillers, medical air systems, vacuum systems, piped medical gasses, emergency power systems, uninterruptable power systems, electrical systems, etc. Experience with performance-based contracts for out-sourced services. Knowledge and experience in applying relevant CSA health care standards. Extensive property and facilities management education and knowledge, ideally with applicable accreditation by a recognized organization. Experience and knowledge of Accreditation Canada requirements as they pertain to facilities in a health care environment. This includes applying these standards, and maintaining the associated documents and practices to fulfil these expectations.
  • 5 years of recent and relevant leadership experience with progressive accountabilities for financial, strategic, and people management in a health care environment managing a multi-site complex and diversified real estate portfolio. Proven experience in meeting planned objectives and ad-hoc facilities requirements within a building infrastructure portfolio, in health care.
  • Ability to develop strong team dynamics to solve problems and gain alignment with organizational goals. Collaboration, negotiation, and persuasion skills, paramount for the engagement of internal and external stakeholders. Effective communication skills; both written, oral, and presentation skills. Experience in managing large budgets and staff for: facilities management, operations and maintenance, external contracts, materials procurement, etc. Ability to effectively prioritize and address simultaneous customer concerns while also maintaining adherence to standards.. Strong analytical and technical, process and problem solving skills. Possesses a sound knowledge of management and a working knowledge of information systems. Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and monitor quality and performance indicators and benchmarks. Understanding of government infrastructure processes and policies.
  • Travel to other sites or provincially is required and must have access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives

$46.53 - $58.16 Hourly
