Saskatchewan Blue Cross\xc2\xae, one of Saskatchewan\xe2\x80\x99s Top Employers, is currently recruiting for a full-time permanent Manager, Life & Disability Services to join our team. This position offers the flexibility to be in-office or participate in hybrid options in our Saskatoon or Regina office. This position may also be located remotely across Canada with preference given to candidates residing in Saskatchewan.

JOB FUNCTION

Reporting directly to the Director, Life & Health Services, the Manager, Life & Disability Services will oversee the department\xe2\x80\x99s operations, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of life, critical illness, short-term, and long-term disability claims adjudication services, including proactive case management and rehabilitation activities. As an active member of the leadership team, this position will lead collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, uphold the company\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision, and values, and ensure protection of its brand, corporate image, and reputation. The position will provide operational leadership and direction to the Life & Disability Services team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide operational oversight to the department through monitoring and evaluating caseload volumes, managing resources, and overseeing operational procedures to ensure effective and efficient delivery of claims adjudication, case management, and rehabilitation services
  • Advise on complex and sensitive file reviews, rehabilitation plans, and claim decisions to ensure fair and professional evaluation and resolution of complex inquiries, claims appeals, complaints, or litigation from clients, plan administrators and other external stakeholders
  • Ensure accomplishment of department objectives by delegating appropriately, managing employees, planning and evaluating department activities, monitoring and reviewing KPIs, and following through on the department work plans
  • Keep up-to date on pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information and best practices and leverage to recommend a course of action, establish strategic goals, define objectives and to encourage and drive continuous improvement and innovation
  • Ensure the successful implementation of projects through adherence to project intake, discovery, initiation, planning, implementation, communication, training, change management and closure processes
  • Ensure fiscal accountability in managing the day-to-day responsibilities through adherence to policy, process, regulatory requirements, audit, investigations, and mitigation strategies
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor departmental budget with input from Team Leaders; forecast requirements, schedule expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
  • Ensure a positive, diverse, inclusive, safe, and compliant work environment that is focused on delivering an exceptional member and employee experience
  • Work with direct reports to develop clear performance objectives aligned to overall strategic, operational and engagement goals; monitor overall effectiveness and address obstacles as they arise
  • Maintain high levels of staff performance and engagement through clear and regular communication, coaching, recognition, development, and regular feedback
  • Contribute to the development and effective use of human resource strategies, practices and procedures including recruiting, selecting, training, developing, and evaluating employees
  • Develop annual departmental plans and strategies that operationalize the organization\xe2\x80\x99s annual business plan
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Completion of a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and leadership experience is required
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience within the healthcare sector, in a leadership capacity focused on leading and motivating a team to achieve common goals
  • Knowledge of the life and health insurance industry and provincial government healthcare programs
  • Familiarity with and adherence to Saskatchewan Employment Legislation
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 with the ability to understand and learn new systems
  • Experience in the development and delivery of policies and procedures
  • Exceptional written and oral communication abilities
  • Strong managerial skills, including motivating, developing, coaching, and leading teams
  • Ability to promote cooperation, collaboration and partnerships between individuals or groups both internal and external to Saskatchewan Blue Cross
  • Demonstrated experience applying the principles of successful transformation/change management
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines
  • Ability to use sound judgement to make good decisions based on information gathered and analyzed
  • Effective negotiation, dialogue/conflict resolution, and diplomacy skills
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis
  • Criminal Record and background check satisfactory to Saskatchewan Blue Cross
