Role Overview

Reporting to the Director, Strategy, Planning and Performance, the Manager, IT Business Office co-ordinates strategic planning and performance management for IT and its' partners, both internal and external to Teck.
As part of Teck's Growth Strategy, the TDS team is on multi-year journey to provide technology services that support the expansion of current operations and development of new operations.
In this newly created position, you will lead, design and implement improved strategic and operational planning processes, supporting the IT leadership team and departmental teams to build robust, measurable plans. You will demonstrate a data-driven approach to empower teams to understand their performance in business terms. You will instigate processes for the collection, analysis and review of key organizational performance information, track progress, evaluate against goals, connect with collaborators, and inform future plans. You will maintain and handle relationships with critical external vendor partners, and internal partners like finance, to ensure IT teams have the vital support to complete plans.
Through outstanding leadership and a deep knowledge of planning and IT operations, you will improve TDS' planning and performance capabilities to enable TDS to deliver the services that our operations need.

Key Responsibilities

Long-term planning
Collaborate with teams such as business relationship managers, enterprise architecture, and project management to facilitate the technology planning process on a regular cycle
Ensure technology planning integrates and provides impactful results into Teck-wide planning processes such as Life of Mine (LOM) and 5Y business planning
Establish processes to review and report on delivery to plan in terms of % objectives achieved
Performance Management
Build and refine the performance management system to establish that the overall strategic direction and priorities are accurately reflected in meaningful metrics across all technology teams
Incorporate methodologies like value driver tree analysis to ensure that critically important technology metrics are aligned with business drivers
Facilitate the reporting of technology operational performance to key collaborators and senior leaders through their business liaison managers
Vendor Management
Establish and manage strategic partnerships to achieve enterprise technology strategy more effectively or efficiently
Develop and improve a vendor management office (VMO) to supervise vendor performance against contractual obligations (important metrics & SLAs) and elevate vendor performance
Work closely with the Commercial team to collaborate on the lifecycle of vendor contracts, including negotiations, renewals, and terminations
Technology Financial Management
Collaborate with finance to define priorities for improving financial transparency of tech service costs
Integrate technology planning into Teck-wide financial routines, providing results and inputs for 5Y planning, capital allocation, service fee allocations, and annual budgeting
Talent, Learning and Development
Collaborate with HR to engage technology planning in identifying future talent needs, such as increases in workforce size or evolving skills associated with new technologies
Ensure technology operation and preparation routines integrate Teck-wide HR routines, such as succession, growth and performance outcome calibrations
Leadership
Lead and manage a team of internal and contract technology professionals
Participate and facilitate strategic and operational reviews with leadership teams
Where required, mentor and/or put in place training plans, communities of practice to help improve performance and planning abilities across the workplace

Technical
Minimum 10 years within the IT industry, experience in commodities considered an asset
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in engineering and/or business
Experience in a similar cross-functional role, technical planning or IT business office, or in project portfolio or program management, preferably in an international organization
Experience of developing and running the implementation of planning, performance, and evaluation processes, and of developing metrics and results frameworks e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement
Outstanding written and analytical skills, and experience of producing reports for senior audiences that combine data and written narratives to inform decision-making
Experience in providing training or mentoring to others, especially in program or project management
Attention to detail and a high standard of work presentation that can cater to an executive level
Vendor Management: SLA tracking, partner accountability and experience with contract lifecycle management, onboarding, and scorecards
Financial & Cost Optimization Skills: Familiarity with budgeting and cost reporting. Experience with IT service management (ITSM) and ITIL. Familiarity with cloud cost management tools (e.g., Azure Cost Management, Flexera)
Pay Range:
CAD $147,000 - $182,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
