Overview


Are you a seasoned internal audit professional with deep technical knowledge in cloud environments, cybersecurity, AI governance, and data governance? We are seeking an experienced

Internal Audit Manager

(IT-focused) to lead IT audit and advisory engagements that provide valuable insight into the effectiveness of governance, risk, and control processes in today's evolving digital environment.


You will represent Internal Audit as a subject matter expert in IT assurance and advisory services, with responsibilities ranging from leading audits to mentoring team members and presenting high-impact recommendations to senior leadership. This is a critical role for someone who excels at translating complex technical risks into actionable business recommendations.

You'll help ensure WorkSafeBC is accomplishing its objectives by evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.


In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.


What you'll do


Lead and execute end-to-end risk-based IT audits and advisory engagements, focusing on cybersecurity, AI governance, data governance, emerging technologies, and system implementations Manage day-to-day activities, including mentoring and coaching junior staff and collaborating with external consultants, ensuring work aligns with the Global Internal Audit Standards Provide clear and practical insights into risks and control gaps Communicate complex technical findings clearly and succinctly in both oral and written form to all levels of the organization, including non-technical stakeholders and executives Leverage tools such as ACL and Power BI for complete population testing and impactful data visualizations Assist in the development of the department's annual audit plan as an IT subject matter expert by identifying emerging risks and technology trends Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking. We're looking for someone who have:


A track record of success in performing comprehensive audits across a wide range of technologies and platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, data warehouses, endpoint detection and response systems, network security tools, incident management response, backup policies, data protection controls Extensive understanding and application of IT frameworks, such as COBIT, NIST, and ISO 27001 and 42001 Proven ability to navigate complex IT environments and understand the organization's technology stack, apply critically thinking to analyze information/connect the dots, and solve issues proactively A consistent history of meeting tight deadlines with a "Make It Happen" attitude Taken initiative to evolve audit methodologies using data analytics and automation Strong commitment to continuous learning and staying current with evolving IT and audit practices Demonstrated expertise in fostering a learning culture and nurturing a growth mindset within the team

Your background and experience




A

degree

in business, IT, or a related discipline, or a

professional accounting designation

(CPA, CGA, CMA, CA), plus a

Certified Internal Auditor

(CIA) or

Certified Information Systems Auditor

(CISA) certification A

minimum of 6 years of experience

within internal audit, including: + At least 5 years of leading IT audits or advisory projects
+ Experience managing or mentoring junior audit staff or consultants
Practical experience with testing controls across Azure and Oracle Cloud platforms Hands-on use of ACL or other data analytics tools for population-based audit testing and Power BI for dynamic dashboards and audit storytelling Experience in leveraging control frameworks (e.g., COSO, COBIT, NIST, ISO 27001) Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) would be an asset Exposure to AI, machine learning, and automation tools from a risk and governance perspective
