Reporting to the Vice President Indigenization, and in collaboration with staff, students and community advisor committees, the Manager, Indigenous Initiatives and Inclusion, is responsible for the development and delivery of policies, programs and services that encourage and support Indigenous and inclusion initiatives at CNC.

The Manager will work with College administrators, instructors and staff, advising on program planning and priorities, services, policy and procedures to facilitate the access, transition, retention and success of Indigenous students. The Manager will engage in change agent leadership practices building an inclusive culture of knowledge, transparency and learning with reciprocity and collective development. This role will also promote an environment of cultural safety and support Indigenization through a change management approach through the ARC. The Manager will regularly partner, collaborate, and report outcomes of Indigenous-related efforts to VP Indigenization and college community. The Manager will consult with partners internal and external to the college in the operationalization of the Indigenous Education workplan. The incumbent will track outcomes of Indigenization and next steps towards achieving the mission and goals of CNC, reporting regularly on progress to the VP Indigenization. This role supervises the day-to-day work of the Aboriginal Student Navigator, Aboriginal Student Advisor, the Wholistic Indigenous Support, and Indigenous Advisors & Community Liaisons at each campus. Will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of learners. Will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
Specific Duties
Work collaboratively in a supervisory and mentorship capacity with Aboriginal Resource Centre (ARC) staff and Indigenous Advisors & Community Liaisons across the institution to plan and offer ongoing relevant holistic and inclusive cultural supports. Work and collaborate with staff at the community campuses to align, develop and activate student supports and services. Represent the College at events pertaining to Aboriginal/Indigenous education throughout the CNC region. Inform Indigenous programming and supports with relevant evidence-based practices and current research on student success. Support and assist with Strategic Plan priorities. Support and maintain communication with the Yinka Dene Council and participate as required. Responsible for tracking, yearly reporting and renewal of various funding opportunities. Work closely with students, faculty, staff, and administration to foster open and respectful relationships ensuring Indigenous learners' needs are best served. Work with Student Affairs colleagues to support and enhance services for Indigenous students. Engage and include Indigenous students and staff voices in the delivery of programs and services across the College and within the ARC. Work with various Strategic Enrolment Management teams and Academic Schools to develop and support effective recruitment and retention strategies for Indigenous students. Ensure all College policies, procedures, and collective agreements are adhered to. Build a culture characterized by responsibility, relevance, respect, reciprocity, acknowledgement, and recognition. Analyze and summarize a wide variety of student data on such issues as enrolment levels and comparisons, graduate outcomes, educational costs, student achievement indices, attrition rates, student demographics, tuition fees etc. Ensure effective mentorship of staff by mirroring accountability and encouraging a climate of excellence by supporting and monitoring performance while facilitating professional development opportunities for within portfolio. Collaborate and support the work of the Elder/Cultural advisor in the development of an appropriate physical and culturally safe/relevant environment fostering Indigenous student success at CNC. Represent the College on community and other committees as required. Support and develop a culture of coaching and mentoring; embracing Truth and Reconciliation. Promote a culture of purpose and accountability with staff by regularly reinforcing the connection between day-to-day tasks and long-term organizational success. Will report to the VP Indigenization on ARC activities in consultation with the Elder & Cultural Advisor. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a discipline relevant to post-secondary Aboriginal education or other related discipline; a Master's Degree would be considered an asset. A minimum of 3 years' full-time administrative and/or management experience relating to Indigenous education in a post-secondary institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Thorough knowledge of Indigenous communities in Northern British Columbia and the components of Indigenous student success in a post-secondary environment. Demonstrated commitment to the 94 Calls to Action and possess knowledge and understanding of UNDRIP and DRIPA. Demonstrated commitment to a student success philosophy that is consistent with safe and inclusive learning environments. Ability to create and maintain a positive student-centred working environment that supports learning and the provision of service for students and college employees. Awareness and competency in social, cultural and diversity issues in the workplace. Thorough knowledge of Indigenous student success literature and evidence informed practices. Exceptional communication skills resulting in effective communication, conflict management and dispute resolution. The ability to network and build effective relationships internally and externally; thorough and empathetic knowledge of relationship building and working in partnership with Elders and Knowledge Holders. Demonstrated experience leading and supporting organizational change initiatives by applying structured change management methodologies. Demonstrated experience in human resource management, budget development and related administrative areas. Knowledge of, and demonstrated competence in service design, development, delivery and evaluation within a post-secondary environment. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the structures and processes of the public and post-secondary educational system in British Columbia and other Canadian provinces.
