The role is responsible to manage physical risk to Bank staff, customers, assets, and facilitates worldwide. This includes continuity to the Physical Security (PS) program as the center of excellence for bank wide physical security.

Accountabilities:

  • Incident Management & Response:
  • Respond to criminal attacks against the Bank which affects staff, customers, assets or facilities, in order to limit loss and mitigate risk to security incidents.
  • Conduct appropriate after-action reviews post-incident and ensure that findings from this process are provided to Senior Manager PS for integration into future activities.
  • Mobilize rapidly across Canada in conjunction with Risk Prevention unit to support critical incidents and provide security oversight to staff, customers and law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide clear and concise direction to staff, customers and community partners in response to critical incidents.
  • Proactively identify criminal trends and develop security strategies to deter serial (repeat) activity.
  • Effectively manage, communicate and escalate critical information and situational updates to stakeholders and/or senior leadership
  • Critical Incident Management and Response:
  • Respond to highly complex security incidents worldwide, including incidents of terrorism, civil unrest, natural disaster or criminal attack against the bank which affects staff, customers, assets or facilities, in order to limit loss and mitigate risk.
  • Write concise, timely escalation reports regarding incidents to inform key stakeholders.
  • Conduct appropriate after-action reviews post-incident and ensure that findings from this process are provided to Senior Manager GPS for integration into future activities.
  • Law Enforcement Liaison:
  • Communicate and coordinate activities between Scotiabank and Canadian Law Enforcement Agencies by serving as an official go-between for senior officials of both organizations.
  • Facilitate communication between Canadian Law Enforcement Agencies and Scotiabank.
  • Develop relationships with information sources, senior law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, government agencies and peers within other security departments.
  • Attend all Law Enforcement conferences and meetings Coordinate multi-jurisdictional investigations, ensuring all relevant Law Enforcement Agencies have all supporting evidentiary documents and files.
  • Through continued exposure to security training and awareness programs, help foster an improved security culture across the Canadian Branch Network.
  • Financial Industry Liaison:
  • Develop relationships with information sources, regulatory bodies, government agencies and peers within other security departments.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities between Scotiabank and other Financial Industry Corporate Security departments by serving as an official go-between for senior officials of both organizations.
  • Facilitate communication between other Financial Industry Corporate Security departments and Scotiabank.
  • Attend all Corporate Security industry conferences and meetings. Coordinate multi-financial industry investigations, ensuring all relevant departments have all supporting evidentiary documents and files
  • Risk Prevention:
  • Conduct physical security risk assessments of branch facilities, non-branch facilities, and executive residences and provide recommendations to the approving authority for such assessments.
  • Ensure that recommendations stemming from assessments are captured centrally, reported to line management in a timely and appropriate manner, and tracked until resolution.
  • Support other business line initiatives through the provision of physical security subject matter expertise and risk assessment.
  • Physical Security Operating Procedures:
  • Contribute to physical security risk procedures, under the direction of Senior Manager PS, for use by security staff, which align their activities with a central model, are appropriate for the working environment, and which consider differing threat, regulatory and legal environments.
  • Contribute to the implementation of physical risk methodologies and procedures, ensuring that CS staff worldwide utilize them effectively and appropriately to identify, report and mitigate risk to the bank.
  • Project Management:
  • Plan, coordinate and execute approved physical security-related projects.
  • Identify key stakeholder requirements, establish success criteria, and develop project proposals, charters and business cases as required.
  • Drive project execution to achieve planned milestones until completion.
  • Conduct after action reviews after key milestones and at project conclusion to capture lessons learned and ensure relevant findings are integrated into future project plans.
  • General Support All Physical Security Teams:
  • Maintain a team environment through the broader support to PS teams on an as-needed basis by assisting with workload balancing and project management.
  • Assist as required in supporting initiatives being executed across the Canadian Retail Network and Corporate Premises.
  • Training and Awareness/Crime Prevention Programs:
  • Develop and implement best practices for the conduct of training and awareness programs regarding physical security threats under the direction of the Senior Manager PS.
  • Ensure the sufficiency and accuracy of the content of training programs.
  • Continuously innovate and improve the delivery means for training programs by providing recommendations to the Senior Manager PS.
  • Team Performance:
  • Contribute to the development of CS staff in assigned areas of responsibility in order to ensure the overall success of the department.
  • Contribute to the development of high-level plans for the achievement of the Unit's future goals that involve multiple business lines/countries.
  • Promote and foster a positive working environment for staff development.
Education and Experience:
  • University degree or College diploma in Security, Law, Law Enforcement (University degree preferred)
  • High degree of fluency in English required; French/Spanish desirable.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) considered assets.
  • 5 to 8 years of professional security related experience
  • Law enforcement experience considered an asset
  • Financial industry physical security experience considered an asset
  • Development and delivery of security training programs and awareness campaigns
  • Familiarity with physical security measures, current innovations/technologies and applications
  • Proactive crime prevention through environmental design
