Our corporate office, located in downtown Toronto serves as the headquarters for the global Base Metals business, providing support to all our Base Metals operations. The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Manager, Global Commercial Logistics to join our Commercial Planning team in Toronto. This is a permanent position.

You will implement the procurement of materials, equipment, and services for operations, aiming to assure the supply of items for business continuity, at the lowest total cost of ownership possible, achieving industry standards of delivery time and quality of products and services. Additionally in this position you will\xe2\x80\xa6

  • Provide management and direction for all finished goods and copper concentrate logistics business, including physical trading
  • Work closely with sales, sales administration, marketing, commercial planning including IBP on developing sales/logistics plans, execution of and adherence to plans, handle expectations
  • Management of global Logistics services including Ocean Containers, Bulk Shipments, Rail, Trucking, Air, Ports, Customs and Warehousing for all product and intermediate movements to all global customers and warehouses.
  • Guide staff located in Toronto, Brazil and Switzerland directly and provide functional direction for operational logistics in operations who manage logistics to customers for products not led by this role (MK, Cu Ponds, etc.).
  • Negotiate bulk freight contracts with an annual value exceeding USD $80 m (2022 basis)
  • Work with procurement for the provision of all other freight and warehousing services needed: scope of work, volumes, destinations, with annual value exceeding USD $20 m (2022 basis)
  • Coordinate freight and warehousing vendor performance for the provision of reliable, cost-effective logistics services to meet the requirements and standards of the Vale Base Metals Business valued at over USD 100 m annually.
  • Maintain, evaluate, develop, and implement appropriate controls on the logistics business such that we minimize/eliminate/mitigate risk and manage cost while ensuring on-time deliveries to customers
  • Provide insights, tactical and strategic short-term/long-term guidance to optimize/minimize cost of the logistics business while minimizing working capital and maintaining on-time deliveries to customers
  • Develop and maintain relationships on a global basis with all major Ocean Carriers, and together with procurement, Rail Providers, Trucking companies and Third-Party Logistics services providers
  • Provide a long-term strategic view on the evolving logistics business to determine the appropriate contracting of services, including considerations in changing regulation requirements, future cost trends, risks to current services etc.
  • Work closely with the Product Stewardship and Sustainability roles to ensure the logistics of Vale Base Metal products meet changing national and global regulatory requirements
  • Participate in Vale Base Metals initiatives that aim to reduce GHG/ESG footprint; Develop strategies, supported by cost-benefit financial analyses, that align Vale Base Metals logistics business with Vale\xe2\x80\x99s vision and mission to reduce GHG/ESG footprint;

  • Accountable, together with procurement and operations where appropriate, for the entire process of providing the \xe2\x80\x9cto market\xe2\x80\x9d Logistics for Vale Base Metals
  • Provide oversight on logistics performance for shipments in all countries Vale Base Metals sells into
  • Forecasting, budgeting, consolidation, and reporting of Logistics information (costs, data, service to the Company)
  • Accountable for negotiation of contracts as a Delegated Area for the provision of cost effective and quality (copper concentrates) logistics services across the global business through an in-depth knowledge of global freight markets and modes.
  • Process improvement across the global business to constantly improve, optimize cost, and rationalize service offerings.
  • Development of Logistics standards including controls for the Business \xe2\x80\x93 monitoring compliance.
  • Development of Logistics solutions in support of the Business\xe2\x80\x99s new projects/operations working with the Company\xe2\x80\x99s Project and Strategy groups
  • Develop contingencies and implement plans to ensure Vale can move product to market in the event of strikes, natural disasters and any other event which may impact the normal course of business.
  • Advise and provide Logistical needs to the Base Metals Procurement Department, work closely with procurement on the execution of contracts for the provision of freight/warehousing services
  • Management and optimization of the Business\xe2\x80\x99s warehousing/handling facilities and the products therein.
About You

Education:
  • Undergraduate degree is required
  • CITT, PMAC, PLog certification is preferred
Skills and Experience:
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable and experienced in all modes of transport \xe2\x80\x93 truck, rail, ocean and air in a global context (compliance to national and international regulations).
  • Strong organizational skills gained through significant experience
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Demonstrated decision making skills
  • Acts with high level of integrity
  • Negotiation (purchasing) and strong commercial understanding (to support sales/marketing/projects/trading requirements)
