Manager, Generation and Transmission - Hybrid

Permanent, full-time position

The Manager of Generation and Transmission is responsible for providing oversight and direction to staff, and creating a culture that harmonizes with the overall mission, vision, strategic priorities, and values of the OEB. As Manager, you will inspire teamwork, cohesiveness, and innovation to effectively deliver the required services. In this role, you will organize and coordinate the analysis of applications relevant to Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and rate-regulated transmitters in Ontario, resolving complex issues, and providing professional support on a wide variety of technical and subject matter issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the review of OPG and rate-regulated electricity transmitter applications and related projects, focusing on providing technical advice to assist in the resolution of issues
  • Provide oversight of applications and participate in the review process
  • Review interrogatories and briefing notes, and coordinate strategies for settlement conferences with senior management, cross-examination and/or staff arguments, and any materials that support legal counsel in cross-examination in preparation of public hearings
  • Collaborate with all levels in the organization on procedural matters and technical issues related to cost-based OPG and transmitter applications, and electricity transmission facilities applications
  • Provide direction, coaching, mentorship, and motivation to direct reports
  • Identify and promote development opportunities through training, work assignments and formal succession planning initiatives to nurture a high-performance culture
  • Provide regular performance feedback, informal feedback, talent planning and overall performance assessment
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and other stakeholders to exchange, share and develop opportunities for innovation, and new policies and processes to align with corporate goals and objectives
  • Where appointed, act as delegated authority to make decisions on behalf of the Ontario Energy Board with respect to applications such as rates, franchises, and certificates, leave to construct and quarterly rate adjustment mechanism
  • Motivate the team to deliver timely, high-quality services to the highest level to internal and external stakeholders, using innovation, creative solutions, and professional approaches
  • Demonstrate thought leadership while understanding the business implications of decisions and the alignment to corporate strategy
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field
  • Graduate degree in a related field would be preferred
  • 7 years\' experience in one or more of policy research, rate regulation, planning, design, and construction in a unionized environment
  • 3 to 5 years of management experience in a regulated industry, utility, public sector, or not-for-profit setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including formal presentations to audiences
  • Knowledge of cost-of-service principles and the Ontario Energy Board\'s Renewed Regulatory Framework
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation that affects the Ontario energy sector
